What is important enough for an "update?"

My family and I were discussing this week, what constitutes a big enough accomplishment to e-mail the admissions office? Like is a school-wide award enough? A state wide award? An A+ on you Physics test?
Also, would you update more willingly if you were waitlisted? Nothing to lose, lots to gain?

I think it is probably too late to send anything else in. If waitlisted, send whatever you want but I’d say do it all at once. Don’t spam the office, they won’t like that.

I didn’t update Rice on anything but I did to some other rd schools I’ve applied–I updated on an international award, a national award (Coca-Cola Scholarship), and two state events that I got a lot of awards from. Idk if anything else is big enough since too much non-significant stuff can only dilute your application.
