What is impressive EC's anyways?

I always see on this site, "Your EC's aren't impressive enough," sometimes to, what I feel, is somewhat impressive EC's. I believe this has been asked before, and since it's 2 am I'm not really in the mood to check, what are decent EC's? Well besides living through a civil war, surviving a tsunami, and curing cancer in your spare time. How many is enough and what's considered not enough? How much time should be dedicated to each one, and if it's a compition, how high should you be ranked in it (I know, this one is a hard one to answer due to all of the different types of comptitions.)?

Good EC's are EC's you are dedicated to and prosper in.
This is CC. If you haven't cured cancer, your EC's suck.

Oh, how I love the cancer analogy. :P

Oh yeah that's the one I actually wanted to post lol kyle. I accidentally deleted that one from my favorites a couple days ago.

Oh "Those EC's are weak...So what's good?" thread is the one I was thinking of when I said I knew I saw a thread like this before. Thanks for posting!

I would say anything you have a passion for, and it can vary anywhere from speech and debate to golf. As for involvement...I'd say 3 years is pretty solid. The adcoms don't want to see you as a flake. If you can, try to be an officer or captain; that way, you'll demonstrate both dedication and leadership.

If you have one or two ECs that you're really involved in, then you're set (as long as you can write enthusiastically about it in your application essay).

I just posted on the CC is so demoralizing thread. I agree with following your passion; obviously, what else would one do? I do not think many have had the opportunity to live through a tsunami (especially if you live in the midwest), nor had the chance to live through a war (considering there may not be one going on where you live), nor had the opportunity to cure cancer. You have to participate in ECs that interest you and do something with it to prove it is your passion.

If you are a female who plays the tuba, I imagine that you're passionate about it (else why lug around that heavy instrument that's so hard to play?), and have pursued that passion, so that's a good EC .

Ha. Thanks. Just had to check to see waht people thought. It all seems good to me.
