What is "In Style"???

Hey guys, im starting college at cal state Fullerton in 2 weeks and i have a question. Should i get a Laptop Bag or Laptop Back pack? I have a Lenovo SL510 backpack and it isnt Extremely light (About 5.5 or so pounds) SO what is my best option. I am willing to spend around $100 for one. My thinking is that a laptop backpack would but a big strain on my back since it would be heavier then what ive carried in high school and even then my backpack was kind of heavy. Also, i dont know if that would look geeky. Now, my worries with a laptop bag is if it would have enough room to carry all my other materials. (Books, Notebooks, Paper, etc) Do i need to bring my textbook to class very often in college? What about my laptop? ANY advice helps! Thanks!!!

I never carried a book bag in college, and I never took my laptop to class (not to many people did).

I usually had some down-time between classes where I could go back to my dorm/apartment and drop off books and notebooks for my first class and pickup my books for my second class.

If I couldn’t do that, I just used a draw-string Nike (I had a sweet one that looked like a MJ 23 Jersey) to carry a few books.

Just do what you prefer, and don’t worry about looking “geeky”, no one cares about that stuff in college. Whatever works best for you and your needs.

Why do you care so much what others think of it so much, its not high school anymore and people tend to mind their own business for the most part. My backpack weighs in at 25-30ish pounds and I am not a big build, but my back isn’t dead, but I work out. What is your major? Requiring books and such for a class is dependent on the professor’s lecture style and the class itself. Chances are you do not need a laptop for class. Since you are going to Cal State you are probably commuting from home, so I doubt you would be carrying a lot of materials around unless you plan to study at school.

What is ‘in style’? Whatever the advertisers and media depict as being the appearance du jour. They fickle, foolish masses fall for it every time.

I’d bring a laptop to class occasionally if I had to show up but didn’t have to pay attention to get an A+ - hence playing games or what have you.

Personally I’d use a backpack because it’s the least strain on your back compared to everything else - and it evenly distributes the weight. It is definitely the most common item used, so you of course won’t be ridiculed/ noticed by doing the easiest, most practical option.

Not to offend anyone, but I always felt that the guys with the messenger bags were sorta ‘dew-she.’ Not that much, but they were trying to be stylish/ hipsterish too hard. You’re in college, no problem with the ole’ backpack, its the last time you will look normal wearing one. But then again, who cares. Personally I’d save the $100 for booze and food money.

I’m going to take a stab at things and said you went to college a while ago.

I honestly dont know anyone who DOESNT bring their book bags and usually a laptop to class
