What is intelligence, anyway?

because we want insights not no wikipedia definitions

wikipedia does a much better job than these insights do

it encompasses all insights

definition do not encompass all insights

i think 'smart' is what school often teaches to- picking up new skills quickly, analyzing a situation, whatever. 'intelligence' comes into play, but not always- i think intelligence is an ability to think beyond what is being taught. when i hear 'intellectual,' i think of someone who is constantly thinking and observing, who is curious about the world and learning on their own (first image that comes to mind is my friend who gets into a discussion about perception and religion while we play with a Ouija board at a party).
'smart' and 'intellectual' can and often do intersect, but not always-- there are definitely smart, diligent people who do well in classes- but their knowledge of the subject only goes far enough to answer the multiple-choice questions, etc. and i know plenty of 'intellectuals' who are just not stimulated by school- they're fascinating to talk to and have so many interesting ideas, but they don't do well in classes because they just don't care.

we want this discussion because through wiki you just learn the "facts" and thats "smart" not "intelligent" lol irony???

it is a great tool though to start off with though...
