what is exactly investment banking and what are some of the job duties involved and how many hour per week do u work and what places hire investment bankers

Is this a serious question? I bet you just saw the salary and now you're on here. Anyway, post the same question on: ibankingoasis.com I Banking Oasis is full of investment analysts/associates and other finance students... Just ask here... Try not to get chewed out, either.

An investment Bank is basically a sell side entity. Stuff they do is Mergers and Acquisitions, IPO's etc...

Suppose, a firm is going through an IPO...they have bids open from banks for their stock....the best bidding bank buys the shares at a fixed price and then the job of this bank is to sell these shares to the general public at a somewhat higher price and make profit out of it...so thats what Ibanks do...a bunch of other stuff too but this is like one of the big things...Investment banks basically deal with introducing new securities in the market rather than buying and selling already existing ones...

tons of topics already on this

Just a question:

Is it true that almost all i-bankers live a life of workaholism? I've heard of plenty of horrible stories of I-bankers having his/her family broken apart due to their lifestyle of spending very close to 0 hour with the family and devoting almost 100% of their time in work. I know that once you start the pathway of "I-bankism", you are able to literally become a millionaire within 10-15 years but personally I think there are more costs than benefits to the career...

Any other opinions regarding this?

Depends if your willing to throw away the prime years of your life for money. Most CC posters are, so investment banking is a great career. Honestly it comes down to greed - if you are ready to sacrifice for money. Nobody needs an IBanker's salary to stay alive or feed their kids.

^^ Thats actually true that you dont NEED ibanking money to feed your family...but you cant deny that working in a hedge fund or a private equity firm or doing M&A deals is also one of the most exciting jobs out there....You have to toil for the first 3-4 years really hard but after that the work is very entrepreneurial and its dynamic...Remember everyone isnt doing it for the money...If I hadnt taken those Finance classes in college this wouldn't have even been on my primary radar...
