What is involved in the physical fitness test?

People tend to freak out about the swim test for no real reason....(perhaps as a former and hopefully once again competitive swimmer I'm a little glib about it...but what can you do). Anyway, you can literally float during the swim test and pass. They don't care if you can actually SWIM...just that you don't die. Or need life support.

The pe test.......heh. I wish I could tell you what it exactly consists of. Unfortunately, I was disqualified during the first exercise (a step aerobic thing). I basically tripped on my shoe lace and fell off the step. Apparently they thought I was having an asthma attack or something and pulled me. Yeah I still have my 3 quarter requirment, but it's nto all that bad. It's two quarters of elective classes (things like archery) + one quarter of fitness (swimming, weight lifting, etc...). I'll finish it before my 4th year........

I should also add that when scheduling classes the gym classes function seperately. So you're still able to take a full course load AND a gym class. They don't take up a class slot.

I'm super excited for gym classes!

okay i am not sure as to the validity of this statement but a friend of mine told me that Uchi has the greatest percentage of overweight students. True or False?

I would sincerely doubt the validity of that statement....at least judging from what I've seen on campus. I also don't even know how you would measure something like that. It seems highly improbable to me that that someone went around to every single college in the country and counted the number of overweight students. Yeah right.

just work out over the summer. you have two month to get in shape if you are not. big deal. if you can't pass the swimming test, who cares? you'll be with a bunch of people who can't pass either so no body will be laughing at you.

also, most smart people are not fat. uchicago students= very smart= probably not fat. just take a look in your honors classes and your elective classes. who has more lard?
