I'd like to hear your reasons for applying to columbia, if you don't mind? What makes it so great?

i figure this is the best way to figure out obscure positive aspects of the school :)

The combination of the Core Curriculum and New York City did it for me.

core is actually one of the things I don't like much about columbia, I like some of the core classes but I don't like the idea of having a core. My reason for choosing columbia is rather hard to put into words (I did manage it pretty well with the why columbia 98-words answer though)

i liked the atmosphere, which is created mostly by the students that go there. sure ppl will tell you that columbia students aren't generally very different from ppl at other ivies, but i'm definitely not alone when i say that columbia students are nicer and generally more normal. nyc, too, was a plus, even though i've gone to school here for more than six years. the things you can do here are just endless.

i know i could just look it up, but if someone could sum up the core briefly i'd be appreciative :)
