^well you said “I’m surprised people still think California’s this amazing place”. But then you proceeded to say what you love about it

i only really mentioned how i miss cali’s low buildings lol =/

sorry i was referring to how wayyyyy back in history people referred to cali as this land of opportunity, resulting from the gold rush, and how even though these days its not like that, people still give it a favorable bias.

don’t get me wrong it’s a nice place, just sometimes people do give it a bit more credit than it deserves.

It’s nice, but there are way too many people (and hence way too many s***ty drivers).

I live in a nice, beachy part of Los Angeles. I love it so much here. It’s 20 minutes from downtown LA on the freeway, 45 minutes to the OC, and just 5 or 10 to the beaches. I’ve been everywhere in the state, and as much as I love living in So Cal, Nor Cal is incredible. Well at least most of it. San Luis Obispo, Santa Cruz, Bay Area, Sonoma, all AMAZING places to visit/live. I will take any opportunity I get to move up north.

That post was amazing, haha.

Well anyway I feel the same way, kinda. I’ve been to California once, LA (I have family there). I absolutely loved my two weeks there. I had the complete tourist experience, Disneyland, Universal Studios, shopping at Rodeo Drive, Robertson, Knottsberry Farm, and practically every SoCal beach you can think of (Redondo, Laguna, Newport, Huntington, etc.) I loved it, everyday was something different, not too mention the weather was absolutely amazing, not too humid and not to hot, outdoor weather all the way.

I could never live there however. I love the East Coast, I love my four distinct seasons, I love complaining about how hot it is during summer and is and i absolutely love being snowed it and sipping hot cocoa! Yea that does sound a bit cheese but it’s true, California to me just seems like vacation. I’d love to experience NorCal (as some posters here call it, :)) I mean I guess I wouldn’t mind going to college there (for undergrad anyway) or maybe even having a vacation home there when I’m older.

I love my location here on the East Coast though. I can’t imagine NOT living in the suburbs. I can get to NYC on the express bus in about half an hour, I can get down to the shore (beach) in about one hour, not too mention Pennsylvania to the west, Poconos is a little more than an hour away and Philadelphia only two!

I was born in California!
I remember none of it though. I left when I was like 7 – which I guess is old enough to remember something. All I remember is my next door neighbor was this girl named Taylor and we always got into fights and then friends again…and then we fought again…and then we were friends again.

Why wouldn’t you take the fastest route going somewhere O_o…? I’ve driven (or have been in the car with my parents driving) from SF to LA or back more than a dozen times and the longest trip was like 9 and a half hours, and that was with two major accidents on the 5 and an hour detour at Gilroy.

I guess if you really drive 60 on the freeway and on I-5 you’ll take that long lol.

@psycuatic: I have a ten person family, so we’d take a 15 passenger van and barrel down the highways. Of course, you can’t really go quite as fast as those wee little cars, but we’d make it in around 10 hours. But I’ve also gone straight up there in a civic, and we made it in 6 going through central california.

The scenic routes take longer: thats why you’d take the slower route. Makes sense to me!

Yea that makes sense, I guess my family and I aren’t ones to take the scenic route haha.

Surfing in the morning snowboarding by lunchtime

@psycuatic: It’s breathtaking. If you don’t do it at least once, you’re missing out.

LA to Las Vegas-3 hours drive
LA to Tijuana-2 hours drive

nice Batllo

LA to TJ isn’t 2 hours.
LA to SD alone takes about 3 hours.
LA to Vegas should take around 5 hours.

LA to Berkeley only took me 5.5 hours so I don’t see how LA to SF could take 7 hours unless you’re driving the scenic route or caught in heavy traffic.

Everyone should go visit Yosemite. It is beyond beautiful!

Some other negatives I thought of.

The Pacific. It sucks. It’s cold. People who have never been in the Atlantic or Gulf have no idea what I’m talking about. New England water is cold and I’ve never been to the Jersey Shore. That said places like the Outer Banks and Myrtle Beach have amazing water from May through October. Like legitimately warm water. Even Ocean City, MD is nice in the summer. When I was in San Diego I went into the water (July BTW) and came back shivering 30 seconds later. That water is cold!

Proximity to Mexico.

Too dry. And I say this as someone who hates rainy days. (They give me headaches) The lack of green would be a shock to people from the East Coast.

California is officially broke. Nuff’ said.

Everyone seems to be saying it is too overcrowded. if you live in LA or orange county, then it is. everywhere else is perfect. norcal, in my opinion has a much better feel to it. no bullheaded ******* drivers, no tourist traps, no smog. if you like surfing, so cal is better, but thats a bout it, lol. norcal ftw!

California is beyond broke. Desperately need the $60 dollars per application to each UC and OOS tuition so apply early and often folks!

lol is that true^
