What is it like to live in the South?

Here we go, my home region! Some people love it, some hate it, let me know what you think!

I live in Houston so I'm not really sure if that even qualifies as the south

Gosh, there has got to be some southerners here!

Well I’ll make a few comments seeming as I’ve lived in VA for 5 years now. Technically Virginia is the Southeast, but whatever.

Bad:

 1. It can get really hot and really humid down in the South.
 2. There’s a lack of public transportation. :frowning:
 3. There’s not MUCH to do (I live in VA, so my knowledge of the South is very limited) From my experience you have to really “get out” to do stuff
 4. It’s hard to understand a lot of people w/ heavy accents.
 5. People don’t walk!

Good:

 1. The people are friendly
 2. The weather can be nice
 3. The trees & animals are beautiful
 4. VA has some good colleges.
 5. Florida is in the South. That counts for something
 6. The food in the South is great, though sometimes unhealthy.
 7. Well, Myrtle Beach and Virginia Beach are nice beaches.
 8. The stars!

Do you like the northeast or south better bigwill

Northeast— without a doubt! But then again, I haven’t FULLY experienced the South and I’ve never been to the West Coast. So I can’t judge the other two too harshly. :)

where did yo liv in the ne

NY. But I used to pay visits to New England.

Does Va count as the south? Well, I also lived in South Carolina. I can not say the two are very much different. I like it here, but there are many more interesting places. Basically I agree to what bigwill said.

NYC? I guess most people on HSL are from California lol its just me and you basically

the last^ post was to bigwill, my bad zap i posted it before i saw yours.

@zap- I would think it depends if you are in VA near DC or not, do you think the identity changes as you go north?

onthefly, I’m from Brooklyn. Only a train ride away from Manhattan.

zap: I’d consider VA the South. However, NOVA is less southern than other parts of VA.

VA is considered the midatlantic region. Not really south, not really north.

does it have its own culture or does it identify with both south and north?

Well actually, since Virginia is south of the Mason-Dixon line, it’s considered a southern state.

[Mid-Atlantic States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Mid-Atlantic (United States) - Wikipedia)

It really depends what part of VA you’re in. Northern Virginia is pretty “normal” and Southern Virginia can get a little hickish.

onthefly: people in NOVA have the Southern charm that you might be familiar with, but like PlattsburgLoser said, they’re pretty normal. I’m not really positive because I live in Central VA. People in NOVA are also more wealthy.

Where I live you can have you’re real country, hickish, trailer home, deer hunting people and then you can have people that don’t seem like they have a bit of Southern in them. Virginia is an interesting state.

That it is. I used to go to Hayfield in Alexandria.
I also read somewhere on Wikipedia that the new Real World would be in DC

do you think the majority of CCers are from CA, because that thread exploded with posters while my other 2 are stagnating. Are they just more passionate?

It seems to be either west coast or east coast people. I haven’t noticed a lot of um…heck I don’t even know what that region is called, mid-west(?) People.

Haha, sorry for commenting on here, but California is the most populous state in the U.S. Therefore, there will likely be several people on this site.
