What is it that distinguishes you as a unique candidate for admission to [our U]

Hi,
Can anyone please tell me, when a certain university ask you this question, and wants you to write a 500 words essay, do they want you to write a story about yourself ? or just start listing what you can do and what makes you special ?
I'm really confused.
What would you write about, if you were asked this question :

What is it that distinguishes you as a unique candidate for admission to [Our University]?

Or

What will you bring to the student body and why will this be important to the other students?

Can you please answer me ?
Thank you in advance.

I would say no story.. because that's too much of a linear approach.. There's nothing overwhelmingly revealing about a chronological laundry list of life events.

Think of what's unique about you and read the university's mission statement and message from the dean and campus life to get an idea of the University's self-image.

For example, in my home state of Montana, the universities are committed to outdoor life (fishing, hunting, camping) and sports. For majors they offer Wildlife Biology, Wildland Restoration, Forest Operations and Applied Restoration (cetificate).
So if you were applying to one, you mention your passion for bow hunting.

Try not to elaborate on your qualities that you had no choice or little choice ("I am from Norway... ") That was involuntary. ("I'm Christian") That was probably involuntary. When talking about your qualities, choose ones where a choice by you was involved: "I have chosen this ethical code to live by which is inspired by the Vikings, my ancestors." "I chose to become a Christian even though all of my friends and family aren't"

Thank you very much leoliby you helped me very much..I really had no idea what to write..
