What is it with everyone's scores on here?

Not to be offensive, but seriously.
It's like EVERYONE in this section makes at least a 30, and if you get a 34 or 35, you complain and re-take because you didn't get a 36. What is this?

That’s mostly b/c CC isn’t representative of the entire population. I’m still wondering why people are retaking after 34’s or 35’s, I got a 32 after my first ACT and didn’t bother retaking.

1 perect of the ACT test-takers could be on here, I was wondering where are all the average kids (26-27) at lol

Are there any average people here?

Honestly I think that some people lie on here. Only .04% of test-takers receive a 36, and it seems like half the people on here receive that score.

Yeah seriously, everyone was saying how the science was sooooo hard, and next thing you know everybody who’s posting there scores have 31 and up in science. I look at the national averages for each state, and the state with the highest average ACT composite score was Massachusetts with a 24, the rest of the states were like 22, 20, and some 19 and 18, so yeah idk.

Most of the users on here tend be to more motivated individuals, thus higher scores. I personally got a 33.25 and wanted a 34, so I’ll be retaking. These individuals realize that the ACT and SAT is probably one of the most important exams of your life, and it shows colleges your true level of intelligence because the test is standardized throughout the nation.

This lets colleges know that there may be either grade inflation or deflation at different schools. Some schools may be easier, and the average GPA may be around a 4.1. Other schools may be more rigorous, so the average GPA may be around 3.6. All depends on context.

The SAT/ACT allows colleges to view students throughout the nation in the same context.

I know right! Everyone on CC makes me feel so dumb and I have a perfect GPA and got a 30 on my ACT…(which, btw, I will NOT be retaking.)
I think most people
On here are planning to apply to ivy leagues and other highly competitive
Colleges, which is why they need almost-perfect scores.

stopped reading at “true level of intelligence”

0/10

CC is filled with try-hards, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing :D

CC also serves a darker, more sinister purpose… Here we have a place where people care about ACT scores more than most other forums. This means that if someone gets a 36, they will feel as if they are getting more “street cred,” because they are excelling at something that is looked highly upon in this place. Another factor is that this is an anonymous site, so no one knows about anyone personally. Telling someone at your school that you got a 36 may garner responses such as “Oh, well I’ve got social skills.” Here on the other hand, no one knows about your social life (or lack thereof).* These are reasons that I believe there are so many high scorers on here, apart from the obvious “if you care enough to go on a college admissions help site you probably care enough to study for the ACT” which, I would like to note, is a valid point.

tl;dr this is a good place to show off.

*i realize that not all 36er’s are socially awkward nerds, but I have met a sufficient amount to know that they make up a proportion large enough that I can’t ignore it. I’ve met some cool 36er’s too.

Your name is “goodACTor” … I think your logic is unfounded, and rather you are just jealous at those who have received 36’s on their ACT. It’s such an easy test that studying isn’t necessarily required. I feel like there’s a greater chance of someone like you to be a friendless, socially awkward, and hated teenager than a person who scored a “36” on their ACT.

And your unfounded logic just may be one of the many reasons you may not be able to achieve such a score on the ACT.

^Fun fact: I got a 36 on the June test. It would also do you well to realize that you can’t think that logic is unfounded, rather it is or isn’t. Mine is not and now that you have made baseless assumptions about me, how about I have a turn. You say the test is easy, so I’m guessing you have a good score. Instead of arguing with someone rationally, you revert to insults, so I will draw the “baseless” conclusion that you aren’t good with people. I feel bad for you, so I’m going to give you some advice: you’ll make a lot more friends not jumping to ignorant conclusions and insulting random people on the internet. Oh and you might want to brush up on your debating skills, because calling someone’s logic unfounded and then not stating why or how will never get you very far.

We are the over achievers of the whole. Why else would we be posting countless threads about colleges, standardized scores, ECs, etc? We care and thus we try to push ourselves to do the very best we can. I personally got a 33 in Sept, and I’m aiming for 34+. It doesn’t hurt to try right?

On one hand, I agree-- I thought 1990 was a pretty good SAT score until I got here… Everyone is a freaking overachiever @___@ Everywhere I turn, SAT and ACT scores are nearly off the charts and they want to retake it because they feel it’s not enough when I would settle for that much…

On the other hand, though, remember what this site is… College admissions forum. The only people who would be active here are people who are dead set and paranoid about not being accepted to their dream school, so they are working their asses off to get there.

Makes me wish I had a dream school  I feel so unmotivated.
