What Is It With These Crazy Threads?

I See People Posting Threads Like Wellesley Vs. Princeton, Dartmouth Vs. Ucla, Berkeley Vs. Princeton, Hofstra Vs. Penn.

Hello, The Choices Are Obvious Aren't They!!!?????

The Next Thing People Will Be Saying That They Would Rather Go To A Community College Over Harvard.

Most of them are not that obvious but some are really bad. I especially liked the Harvard vs. UCSC discussion.

Just because you can't see beyond prestige doesn't mean others are just as close-minded.

God forbid someone consider a school like Wellesley, UCLA, or Berkeley! What is the world coming to, when someone would consider those third rate schools over an Ivy!

Maybe the people actually want to be happy at the school that they attend, or they have financial concerns (instate tuition at UCLA or Berkeley is a great deal), or whatever. To compare the two UC's and Wellesley with a community college is a bit rich, in my opinion--those are all extremely well-regarded schools.

or the next thing will be like, should I work at McDonalds or just kill myself?

Different schools are DIFFERENT for a reason. While one may be superior in some respects, they may be lacking more than another school in an area important to the prospective student. The reason there is so much variety in schools is because every person has a different personality. It IS possible to be miserable at a school like Harvard or Dartmouth, despite the prestige, if you would fit better at a smaller, lesser known school (not to imply that Berkeley, UCLA, or Wellesley are unknown or not prestigious in their own respects).

There's a lot more to higher education than a school's NAME. People who thoroughly understand the meaning of the phrase "value of an education" know this. [Lord knows the phrase isn't "value of a school" - if that's the case, we're all vicitims of highway robbery. Tuition is getting to be ridiculous across the board.]

That attitude is exactly what's driving the recent article about colleges rejecting at record rates [see the thread in College Search & Selection; yes, I started it. Shamless self-promotion? Guilty as charged.]. There are plenty of places other than Ivies and the other "prestigious" schools (what the heck is that?) where you can get the same caliber education - possibly better, and with less stress and money involved.

i think those who go to community college first are truly the smartest 'cause of all the money we save (;

It obviously isn't a clear choice, and it's pretty ignorant to say that it is. It's insulting that you compare UCLA and Berkeley to community college, when they definitely give top privates like Dartmouth a run for their money (in many senses).

It's insulting

i'm pretty sure that's the op's intent.

Please tell me you weren't serious when you said you were deciding between Dartmouth and Penn. I think that would be the final straw to make me lose faith in this process entirely.

"Please tell me you weren't serious when you said you were deciding between Dartmouth and Penn. I think that would be the final straw to make me lose faith in this process entirely. "

and why is that? u know me?

No, but because every post I've seen of yours here contains no semblance of either grammar or punctuation, and because your obsession with "prestige" and disregard for others is truly off-putting.

i write with grammar when im doin an sat essay or act essay, and then i score a 12.

Well, I don't want to see you at anywhere I'm going. Not even at community college.
When I see you at the school, then I'll know I made the wrong decision.

Poor grammar and pompous too boot. Sweet.

Fool..............there I said it.
