<p>That's because the bench press focuses on strength in the triceps and chest, which are pretty much 2 of the only muscles in your entire body that ARENT a major part of the rowing stroke. Elite rowers, and college rowers generally are very strong in their legs and arms and back.</p>

<p>so true... I'd 2nd year rowers that are 6'6 with a sub 6:30 2k over people who have been rowing 10 years that can't break 7min2k anyday.</p>
