What is Lehigh Like?

Hi, so this will be my first post. I’m a rising junior and so far lehigh is my first choice. I’ve visited and done some research but I don’t thing it’s enough (why i made this thread). I just need to know if this is the type of place where i’ll be happy. I know the academics are great, I just want to know about the people and social scene I guess. Basically what it is like to go here. I realize that because i’m not interested in sororities or drinking i’ll be kinda “odd” but is that just a stereotype of the school? Any comments about lehigh would help and thanks so much!!

I’m not a student, but my impression is that Lehigh students are generally rather social. And it’s true that many of them do find a social outlet in Greek organizations, and that the Greeks tend to be oriented towards partying.

So if you go to Lehigh, you will probably want to find some alternative social outlet, presumably one that is coed and not oriented towards excessive drinking. And those exist too, like the band or the newspaper or the honor societies or the yearbook. There may well be something that you already do in high school that you could also do at Lehigh.

There is the link to all the student organizations you can join on campus. When my son started at Lehigh he didn’t think he wanted to join a fraternity either. He did decide to join one and he liked it. College is such a different place than high school. You will have the freedom to try all sorts of new activities and have different kinds of friends. College doesn’t have the kind of peer pressure there is in high school. You can try all sorts of new stuff. Something like only 30 or 40 percent of the kids are in Greek life. There are so many activities for you to join. My son has lots of friends from Lehigh that weren’t involved with Greek life. It is great that you have visited the school. Be sure those visits are registered with the admissions office!!! It is great you are already preparing for college! Best of luck to you!!!
