Lehigh has many different types of reputations, ie. engineering/STEM, business, but also really heavy greek life. I know that the administration has been trying to cut this down, but was wondering about what life on campus is really like. Is it overbearing? Does life outside of greek life exist? Can an arts and sciences student survive on campus? Thanks!
In terms of the relative popularity of Lehigh’s undergraduate programs, note that its College of Arts and Sciences stands as its most enrolled academic division.
Bumping this thread. I too would love to know more about the social aspects of Lehigh. From what I read it’s got a heavy party and Greek scene.
My S21 is interested in IBE. He’s a pretty geeky kid (he’s on the robotics and rocket teams in HS, lol) but also very social and charming. Don’t seem him joining a frat, but I could be surprised.
He plays Ultimate frisbee too and loves its laid back vibe.
He’s an Elon Musk acolyte who is very grounded and not into the “bro” or preppy (Vineyard Vines) scene. Very interested in social justice and global issues. For example, he picked up The Color Purple to read over winter break just because. . .
Likes gaming but keeps it in check, time wise, compared to some of his friends. Doesn’t go to football games in HS or anything rah rah. Doesn’t drink or go to parties now, but I imagine will in college some. He doesn’t want a college where the expectation is to get drunk every weekend and/or go out during the week.
Bottom line: he’s not a typical suburban preppy kid and, as you can tell, kinda hard to pigeon hole at all which I think (as his mother!) makes him especially interesting!
Would he find his tribe at Lehigh?
hello!! i am currently a first year at Lehigh in the college of business. I applied ED, deferred, then accepted. 3.5 gpa i believe and 33 act. I only took one ap, coming from a small competitive public high school in new york.
There is absolutely life outside greek life. I know many people who don’t go out at night to the frats. Lehigh truly tries to offer alternatives nearly every thursday, friday, and saturday by hosting different events. (I know they do life size board games sometimes and painting classes)
There are so many different “groups” of people at Lehigh. It took me a little while to find my people, but they’re def there.
there definitely is a heavy party scene centered around greek life. i know many girls who can get by going to frats when they aren’t in a sorority but sadly, it is difficult for guys to enter these parties without an invite.
happy to help!
