What is "michigan" GPA?

what is "michigan" gpa....how do you calculate it?

It is just your Sophomore and Junior year grades from core academic classes(ie. gym and keyboarding dont count). A+,A,A- =4 , B+,B,B- =3 , C+,C,C- =2, etc. No extra points are given for AP or honors classes. If you got a lot of A-'s or B-'s this system actually helps you.....but hurts you if you got mostly B+'s as it brings your grade down. It really does not seem fair that when you earn a B+ you get credit for a B but thats UM and thats how they do it.

My school does not provide letter grades. On the 100 point scale, is a 90 or 95 an A for the Michigan GPA?

I would also like to know the answer to this question. I attended Kettering University for a year and they also provide number grades(called a WAG)....with 100 being the best and a 65 being a failing grade. I am not sure what constitutes an A,B,C, etc. in this situation.

My guess is that all the As start from 90, Bs from 80......
So a 90+ would be a 4.0, an 80-89 a 3.0, etc.....

Of course these are all unweighted grades.

Maybe someone with knowledge of the Michigan GPA system can confirm the policy

Foreign language courses are included right?
and is the Mich GPA rounded to the nearest tenth? ex. 3.88 -> 3.9?

Michigan GPA -

Take out all +/-
Take out all non-academics
Take out all grade boosts
Take out all freshman year grades

For you, any grade above 90 is a 4, any grade 80-90 is a 3, 70-80 is a 2, and I hope you didn't get anything lower. Don't think they round it, unless you are very close. EX. a 3.98 would be rounded to a 4.0, but a 3.76 wouldn't be rounded to 3.8.

you sure, I had a 3.55, and at orientation on the placement test score results paper it said H.S GPA: 3.6 Class Rank: 94%

yea the way I understood it at the campus information session was that there is no such thing as a 3.65 or a 3.85......you always round. Thats what I thought I heard...maybe I was dreaming...lol

lol umar, a while ago, you made it seem like you barely made it to Michigan, as if you got lucky or something. But actually your grades/rank are very solid.

I am lucky....lol or maybe I just have low self esteem when it comes to school lol. It's probably cause my H.S was really competitive. I wasn't really ranked that high and there were PLENTY of "smarter" kids in my class. And then I come to Michigan where it seems like almost everyone has a 1400+, 30+, 3.9 uw+ gpa and I'm the lonely guy who got in with a 28, 1180, 3.6 lol...
