ok is it more important to be happy at a high school or the reputation of the school? I want to switch high schools from the 7th best high school in the nation to a regular high school because there is too much stress and the kids are so obssesed with school that they are getting me too!!! please tell me if its a good idea to leave. Thank you.

I think you should be happy. If you can still take good, tough classes at the other school AND you can be 100% sure you'll like it there (talk to people who go there, visit maybe?) then go for it!

When I was in 8th grade, I applied for 3 programs (2 private, 1 public) The public school program had the best recognition and the most AP's and all my life, my parents had been telling me that that's where I would go. I visited the private schools. One, I completely wrote off, and the other, I loved. It was not too small or large, the comraderie was amazing, the building was fresh and new, and the people were intellegent yet fun and athetic. I knew I would love it there, but I instead picked the public school, mainly because my best friend was going there and that's where I was "supposed" to go.

Fast forward to the beginning of freshman year: I was miserable. I felt lost in the shuffle. I had no classes with any of my friends from before, and I became really, really depressed. I'm the person who always has too many friends, and there, I couldn't make even one. Finally, I settled in, but believe me, to this day (I'm a happy sophmore) if someone would let me switch to the other school, I would leave in a heartbeat.

Also remember if college is what you're worried about, it's you who is applying. If you have the capability of getting in the college you want, then you will. Where you went to hs should not matter as long as you have outstanding grades and recs from teachers who like you, and a passion for something you love.
