What is my chance at top 10 universities?

Insulting my intelligence will make your dismal chances at an Ivy go up?
Fine then. I’m at Fordham on a merit scholarship. I also could have gone to Brandies on a full ride, GW, Brown but with no financial aid, or a number of other schools but Fordham was my only NYC acceptance and that was the deciding factor. I went to one of the top 10 high schools in the country where among many other things I learned you can take AP tests without taking the actual class. My school did not weight gpa’s nor did they have padding classes like gym or band and yet I still managed to have a higher gpa than you.
Am I qualified to have an opinion on college admittance yet?

I think we all understand that college admission isn’t black and white, i don’t know why you need to keep pointing that out, people here are telling you that even despite your grades, your ECs lack that crazy unique factor, yes you do have difficult circumstances so maybe elaborate on that in your essay.

FINAL COMMENT - #1, You asked to be chanced - thus, i am giving you my honest opinion - YOU HAVE NO CHANCE, what else do you want me to say? give you false hope? you asked to be chanced and i chanced you??? u steamed jus cuz u didnt hear what you wanted to hear???

2 - U seem to focus on the fact that SAT and GPA aren’t the sole admission factors, and that you do not need GREAT scores to get into top colleges - although this may be true, SAT and GPA Are by far the MOST important admission factors

3 - by defending the fact that SAT and GPA aren’t the sole admission factors, you infer that your EC"s are GREAT and will get you in - the fact is, ur EC’s are average at best at those top schools, probably below average - once again, whats makes you stand out? what makes you think you are special? what is your hook.

you asked to be chanced and my chance is (along with other people who poster) - you have no chance
kthx

@mediopollito, thank you for accepting the fact that college application is not just black and white. and yes, ill work my way up for gpa and try to do some research with professors in columbia.

“no offense”, have you ever go hunt a boar with a-meter long sniper when u were 7 yr old because your parents are away from you, and u live on your own? probably not. i guess. thats whats unique about me. stories in China are crazy. dnt judge me because i am writing recklessly in here.

i am given the chance to volunteer in large hadron collider. i think that will be something unique. however, I am still waiting for UPenn summer program’s answer. if I am accepted to UPenn then I will go, otherwise i will volunteer at large hadron collider

People will judge you based on how you communicate. We have no other means to judge you, especially in this setting.

@nyc2013, i am not insulting you. i am just asking who attended what school.
good that you had a higher gpa than me, i didnt say I am smarter than you or whatsoever. btw, if you dnt true me that there is a test requirement to take ap calc and other ap classes, you can contact a nest+m student on fb and confirm that.

@TheWikiMan, the reason I keep on pointing that out is that almost all of them talked abt gpa and sat, but never abt ECs and essays and recommendations…etc. from that, i inferred that they are not taking essays and recommendations…etc into consideration.

do you guys have any teacher that is so close to you, that he is willing to pay u to LHC during summer to volunteer?

then i am telling you here. i am capable of writing good essays but my verbal may not be as good since i have accent and people sometimes get confused.

@jayjay: thank you for your opinion. truly appreciated.
2: “#2 - U seem to focus on the fact that SAT and GPA aren’t the sole admission factors, and that you do not need GREAT scores to get into top colleges - although this may be true, SAT and GPA Are by far the MOST important admission factors” gpa may be the most important thing, but sat DEFINITELY ISNT.
3: " by defending the fact that SAT and GPA aren’t the sole admission factors, you infer that your EC"s are GREAT and will get you in - the fact is, ur EC’s are average at best at those top schools, probably below average - once again, whats makes you stand out? what makes you think you are special? what is your hook." No, i tried to say everything counts, some weights more, some weights less.

At least in my case, I focus on GPA and SAT because while the others are important, they will not override a low GPA or SAT score. Of course EC’s matter, essays matter, recs matter, but not so much that they can negate GPA/SAT. No one here is saying you won’t go to a great college, the general consensus seems to be you will go to a great school, just honestly probably not a top 10 because they are so incredibly selective.

My comment about AP’s was in regards to you saying you didn’t take AP English. You can take that exam without taking the class like 30 of my classmates and myself did.

cool. i like talking in calm. yes, i agree that gpa is important, but i think someone that shows great improvement on one’s transcript is as good as straight A student. coming from a low 80-high 90s. this is me, and what my counselor told me, who use to be an admission officer in Barnard. for SAT, I will try hard, and get 2300. but reading sections are great obstacles for me.

about AP, in my school, it is mandatory to take the ny state regents exam in order to get into AP classes. but I didnt take the regent. Certainly I am not going to take AP English Exam because I don’t expect myself to do well on it.

Through my counselor, he told me, if one is capable of going to LHC for summer, then any school’s door is open for him/her. idk whether that is true or not. I am not really a science-math person, doing LHC will kill me. and I have a chance to go for 4 weeks. my task will be sorting data and serve the scientists! what do u think?

Your chances of getting into top 10 is very low. I have read all your posts and I think you should really apologize for what you have said about going to CUNY Hunter is equal to stupid. That makes you a very ignorant person.

where did u go to school for hs?

i am sorry for saying going cuny hunter is stupid. i am going to delete that sentence right now. i was mad. sorry people

You are still a junior and the fact that your parents are illiterate and that you overcame hardship CAN make a difference. As for gpa, you can raise it this semester and the next, not that your 3.7 out of 4.0 is bad. Actually it is the rank that is more important than just gpa. And you can work more on sat, during summer. You can write an essay that stands out. You just never know how college admission works.

Two cases that might inspire you:

 1. A Princeton applicant with around 2000 sat score and undesirable numbers got in. She received a ‘handwritten’ acceptance letter from Pinceton. How? She nursed her cancer-stricken mother all the time except when she was at school. Princeton thanked her mom for raising and sending such a great child to it. Amazing, huh?

A guy I know got around 200 PSAT in junior year. He is African-American and, yes, had to struggle due to difficult circumstances. In senior year, he made MIT Early with not in the least high numbers. Yes, affimative action, I agree. The fact is, though, he made MIT with NO! outstanding stats whatsoever.

Try your very best and let the univs know. It is hard enough as it is, is it not? Let’s not give up or give in. :)

Good luck on UPenn summer program!

Are you kidding? What are you doing? Was that a computer glitch or did you really just spam the boards with all that?
It was 2 cases. 2. Out of millions of kids that go to college every year. Oh My God! Two people got in! That has no bearing on you. That has no bearing on the world. 2 out of the thousands of students that go through the top 10 every year means nothing.
And in regards to those… have you spent the last 4 years of your life nursing a cancer stricken mother? It is so disgustingly wrong to look at that generous act as a means of getting into college.
And I am a firm believer that AA is, while well intended, a horrible practice that prevents deserving applicants from being accepted.

Ok, first off this thread made me LOL pretty hard.

Secondly, Why do you go on every thread and spam the s*** out of them, just like your last few ones on this one?

Hes clearly a robot. Just stop responding and maybe it will stop

Or he may have a lack of intelligence and respect, as shown by his grammar, impatience, and vulgar attitude.

Oh my god, so THIS thread is where the “‘handwritten’ acceptance letter from Pinceton” monster/bot was born.

It made me lol pretty hard too. The OP is an interesting character.
