What is my chance for Columbia?? (help please)

Thanks for any help guys. I'm new to this forum but it seems like it can be a great help for college and stress in general... haha. Well, I am a Korean junior (yes, asian =[ ) and I am wondering on what my chances for Columbia are, along with any advice you might have.

Lets see:
I have a 3.91 unweighted GPA, but I have straight A's right now and plan to get a 4.0 this year. My relatively low GPA stems from slacking off as a freshman, but I got a 4.0 first semester of my junior year and plan to do it again.

I am in the Full IB program, taking IB Chem. 3/4, IB Spanish 7/8, IB Trig., IB Junior English, IB History of the Americas, and IB Biology 1/2 this year.

My class rank is approximately 37/499, but my GPA should go up by application, so I would estimate a class rank around 25. Plus, this class rank is competing with Non-IB students, so it is skewed.

I only took one SAT so far (the january test), and I got:
Rdg:690, Math:800, and Writing:750. (2240), 10/12 on the essay.

PSAT I got a 202, which was also the 96th percentile.

Extra-Curriculars:
Math Team that placed 8th in nation for 3+ years, currently junior class president and aiming for President next year. I also placed 14th in Statistics at the Mu Alpha Theta nationals.

National Honor Society 3+ years

Key Club 3+ years

Federal Way Youth Commission (dedicated to starting projects in the area) for 2+ years, and I am vice-chair this year.

Over 3 seasons of Boys and Girls Club Basketball Coaching for 4th-7th grade.
Federal Way Youth Ecology (community service program), officer this year.

I haven't taken any SAT II's yet, but I plan on taking Math IIC, Chemistry, and Biology. And leaning on taking one more, probably US History.
I project getting:
Math IIC: 780+
Chemistry: 700
Biology: 700

Umm I think thats all I can come up with. If you want any additional information feel free to ask. Thanks for the help/advice guys!!

I am also aiming for: Duke, Cornell, Brown, Berkeley, UCLA. Any advice on those colleges will help as well. Thanks!

I'd say decent, if you apply ED
are you planning on CC or SEAS?

I'm actually trying to apply for the SEAS program haha. thanks for the help though! do u recommend ED? some ppl do, some ppl dont haha

Two big factors: 1) Are you female? (SEAS is almost 3:1 M/F) and 2) Where are you from? Sounds like SoCal, and that could give you a slight edge as well, since SEAS does not have the geographical reach of CC. Nice set of ECs, but no sports. Still, that's nothing that you can't overcome with a well-polished "mission statement" on your Early Decision application.

Good luck to you!

I am a male =(. and I am from Washington State, sort of near seattle. Thanks for the advice though!!

is it particularly advantageous to be a female when applying to SEAS for Columbia?

apparently it isn't so much for MIT anymore- i heard somewhere that they evened it out

"Is it particularly advantageous to be a female when applying to SEAS for Columbia?" Yes! MIT basically vacuums up all the best female engineering wannabees from around the world, so the next tier gets M/F ratios of 2:1 or more.

As a WA resident, your chances of getting into UCB or UCLA are not promising. After placing Columbia SEAS into your "reach" category (but not far reach), you should look to other schools for your "target" category where you have a better chance of getting in. These might include USC, Emory and C-M. "Safety" schools are obvious: UW and Wazzu.

Good luck to you!

Thanks!! Also, I was wondering on any feedback as if I should re-take my SAT. (not to try snobby or anything) I know 2240 is a respectable score, but I feel as if I can peak out at the 2300, and even if I repeat my score, wouldn't colleges like that since it shows that the 2240 wasn't a "luck" score?? Or am i over thinking it...
