Major: Business Admin
UC GPA: 4.0 (a possible 3.0+ for Spring'10)
Applying to: UCB Haas
Prereqs: Completed
IGETC: didn't follow IGETC
TAG/TAP: None
ECs: very low - next to none
Essay: B-essay

Others: CA resident transferring from a CA CC, and a US citizen.

IF I got accepted, what would be the minimum GPA requirement for Spring '10?

humm 4.0 GPA is good… non existant ECs is bad… you didn’t have ANYTHING you could say about yourself at all? I do cross country, I bodybuild, I am an artist I… anything that shows you do more than sit on your bum and watch TV would have worked

xelink, when I filed my application in November, I included a lot of ECs (HS stuff), but when I updated in Jan, ECs became 0. I did include in my essay that I started working (business related), thus I didn’t have time to do ECs.

I have also applied to Haas for fall 2010. here are my stats:

Major: Business Admin

GPA: 4.0
Prereqs: Completed, except for Calculus (in progress)

IGETC: Completed

ECs: Student Government; worked during my freshman yr in CCC. note that ECs are only one part of the Resume that we submitted. work experience, volunteer, awards are also equally important. altho the only awards i had were some scholarships and presidents list (for all semesters)

Essay: This is subjective, so who knows? I wrote all 3 essays the day it was due. But I think they were above average to good.

Others: Took heavy loads for each semester. Took all seven breadth requirements plus one prereq in one semester. only bad thing about my app is not finishing calc until now. i will still have a 4.0 by the end of spring. i made sure that Haas will notice this bc i took 24 units last fall and got a 4.0, and i’m taking only 12 units now.

OP. i saw from ur IGETC thread u go to OCC like me. cool

I also go to OCC. wasn’t aiming for UCB though, i have the intellect, just not the drive(I’m a slacker) got into UCI, so I’m happy. Have fun slashing each other’s throats to get into HAAS. FYI in business it’s not what you know, it’s who you know and your communication skills.

u got into UCI’s b-program? that’s pretty impressive bc they only took like 2-3%. which is harder than haas. not necessarily better tho. and yes, business is about who u know. but also, who knows you? and well, if u go to haas, everyone will know who u are. i wish i can say the same about uci.

no clue about your chances, it seems pretty random to me, but i’m yet another 4.0 gpa applicant to haas (though i won’t be keeping that after this quarter, i think i’m getting an A-, 94%, in a class
-6 breadth in progress and 1 prereq (the eng. lit one)
-work, internship, volunteer work (all exhibit leadership, shift manager, promoted/work on my own individual projects in the company now, rose from normal volunteer to project manager), won an econ award and management decision making award through fbla senior yr of high school at the state level, 2nd highest officer position in chapter of ptk
-essays aren’t very good :[
-1-yr transfer…

no, I got into UCI’s economics program. Didn’t bother applying for business at UCI due to the fact that it was so competitive. You guys can have fun being cut throat while I inflate my GPA for grad school and take courses which tend to improve GMAT scores(think math) more than business courses. Econ majors have higher base salaries off the bat, usually have higher mid career salaries(with quicker ascent to said salary) and are generally qualified for all of the same jobs. Admittedly, most business majors are from a CSU or similar school and the Ivies don’t have business schools. Apples to oranges in many regards and in the end it’s the individual who matters, not the group since i only give a damn about myself.

FYI look at the job title and name of the company most of the Haas and econ people are the same people! with double majors i would say. So they count in both so those statistic are kinda skewed

You are in good shape whether you get an Econ degree or a Biz degree from UCB. Stop trying to prove that one is better by comparing possible salaries.

I was actually saying neither one was better than the other (in terms of starting income). I only posted the general because Peter didn’t seem to accept my Berkeley stats.

^and i only posted the haas income b/c xelink thinks he’ll be making more money by going to uci for econ rather than haas. i never said anything about berkeley’s econ program. xelink just thinks that he’s qualified for both haas AND uci’s b-programs, but he deliberately chose to do econ instead bc he thinks it’s better. this is obviously contradicting what he said earlier in his post about he lacking the “drive” to work hard and cowering at the face of competition. i highly doubt he will succeed in business with that kind of attitude

Ah, I see. Your right, he is the one who started the salary debate. Anyways, major in what you want, since you control your salary, not your major.
