What is my chance for UCB?

@Nathandrake,

You shouldn’t be so upset that the facts show that the starting and growing salaries for undergraduate business majors are lower than they are for economics majors. If you speak to an honest person who works in business, they will probably tell you the same. Majoring in business at the undergraduate level often makes you less competitive for graduate school and less prepared for the GMAT. This is because business at the undergraduate level arguably involves less critical thinking than a major like economics does at the undergraduate level. (Similar to how Physics, Math and Philosophy majors face higher LSAT scores and acceptance rates to top Law schools than Political Science and Public Policy majors.)

^lol why would i be upset. u can believe in whatever fantasy u want. and what “facts” are you referring to? show me where uci’s econ grads make money than haas grads. i never said anything about berkeley’s econ program. show me where i said anything about how berkeley’s econ program makes less money than haas majors. i couldn’t care less if the average salary for business majors is less than the average salary for econ majors in this country. i’m not an average student. and haas sure as hell ain’t no average b-school.

read my post/opinion about undergrad business here:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/business-major/885345-best-college-business.html#post1064358996

and let me clarify this for all of you. economics isnt business. if ur not smart enough or motivated enough to get into the top b-programs in the country, don’t try to kid yourself by majoring in econ and thinking that ur better off and more prepared for business. i can’t believe that i have to even defend all these overachieving haas applicants on here. read this guy’s post. i couldn’t have said it better myself

ahaha Wow, my friend…

Oh, business majors…

Keep chasing the dream…

Didn’t know this little post of mine would stir up so much debate here. =]
And it looks like my chance is really SLIM compared to a plethora of brilliant people out there. Can’t wait til 4/30!

Just a note, I’m working part-time for xyz company right now, and I’m earning a lot more than the starting salary indicated for a biz/econ major. Business doesn’t really have a salary limit, especially when you work under a good company, or when it is your own.

no, I’m not qualified for Berk in general, I’m a slacker(3.6GPA and it easily could have been say a 3.9 but I didn’t ever really do homework hence a B in intro to psych and intro to anthropology despite an A test average). I’d be rejected rather quickly. I might be bright, in all likelihood I’m brighter than the average berk attendee, but simply put… I’m a slacker, my ass would be handed to me so fast and I’d fail so quickly I’d be wasting my time and money going to Berkley. I’m sure there’s a great benefit to going there(as in employability) but I’m dealing with reality and doing what I can with what I have, a good mind and a ****ty work ethic. I’ll probably start taking ADHD medication when I go to a UC, I had an A+ average in HS with minimal effort when I was on that stuff (which dropped like a rock when I went off it due to it suppressing my appetite too much) straight out the door, UCB will get you the better job. For me, I would achieve a higher grade point average at Irvine. This inflated GPA is more valuable for getting into graduate schools, and Economics as a course of study improves analytical thinking more than business administration does(think higher GMAT scores)

and I know the majors are not the same, econ != biz admin. That said, I actually know people in hiring positions who have told me that they wouldn’t give much credence to one over the other and would generally look at past employment/internships more than the type of degree(so long as it’s relevant)
