I have a 4.19 weighted GPA, but I scored very low on my SAT.
My overall scores for the SAT is only a 1280 which I plan to retake it. I believe that I will probably get somewhere around 1380 if I retake it, because last time, I didn’t like the topic at all for the writing portion and received an extremely score on that part. Will I still get accepted?
I have a lot of community hours, but the hours come from only 3 clubs. I am not an officer for any of the clubs, but I am very active.
GPA is competive, SAT is not. Average SAT score for in-coming Freshman this year was 2094. Trying not to be mean, but I seriously doubt you can increase your score by 800 points. Are you retaking in October? Right now, UCR/UCM might be your only UC chances if you are in-state and a 1380 is low for these 2 schools. You need to aim much lower unless you can bring up your SAT. You should look into test optional schools or consider taking the ACT.
Good Luck.
1280/1600, right? I have a hard time believing someone with a 4.19 weighted GPA could score 1280/2400. If you did get 1280/2400, I’m almost confident you can get it up much higher than that. Good luck next time.
@JPinkman: OP stated “overall scores for the SAT”. Had me thinking twice so that is why I asked for clarification out of 1600 or 2400. Also said very low??? Still waiting for an answer from the OP. I agree it is hard to imagine with a high GPA, SAT score is that low, but you never know.
The reason why my GPA is really high is because I study extremely hard for my tests. I am a very dumb person, but i do believe that studying will give me the grades I want. I do intensely the night before the test then ace the test the next day. After that, I forget everything. I think that there are many smart students that have low GPA because they are lazy people that never do their work. I have a cousin that have a 1250/2400 SAT scores with a 3… something GPA(weighted) that got accepted into UC Davis. She wasn’t much involved in club.By the way, it’s out of 2400.
This may be a dumb question but if you can study hard for your HS exams and get good grades, why didn’t you study hard for the SAT and get a good score? If this is how you study, you will be in for a rude awakening when you get to college. Like I said in my above post, if you cannot get your SAT into the 2000 range, your chances are low for an acceptance. There are many schools out there that would be glad to have you, but most of the UC’s are probably out of range unless you can really bump up your score. The Adcoms will question the mismatch on your GPA vs SAT.
I think the ACT might be a better test for you. You really should consider it.
I wish you good luck and you need to broaden your college list.
I guess I’m from an easy school. The valedictorian in my class has a SAT score of 1675. I know this because she’s my friend. By the way, I’m a very slow test taker too. I think it might have to do with my English teacher. Although we’re in the AP English class, he never prepares us for the SAT. He’s the only English teacher for English 10 Honors and AP English 11. Right now, I am still having him as my AP English 12 Literature instructor.
I passed the AP English test with a 3, and I guess it’s because he prepared for that test. We worked mainly to prepare for the AP English test. Thank you so much for your advice. I guess I should take the ACT then. It might be easier. Who knows…
You should make an appt w/your HS Guidance counselor. Your very low SAT limits you greatly – even to many other lower tiered UCs. He or she can guide you. CSUs are a better fit, it seems.
Firstly, OP, its going to be a super duper high reach for you
And somethings wrong. How could your valedictorian get a 1675?!?! SAT scores are always multiples of 10
