I’m an internetional students here in US, a senior, just applied to NYU for ED2. My ACT is 31, and SAT II are Math800, Chemitry 750, Physics 730. My TOEFL is 107. What’s my chance?
Also, I have not heard back from NYU about an interview yet. I’m kinda worried about not having a interview will affect my admission.
Can someone answer my questions?
Thanks a lot.
Very few people get interviews from admissions when applying to the NY campus, so don’t worry! The majority of admitted students don’t even get a mention of an interview.
As for your chances, what school are you applying to, and do you have the money to cover all of the expenses? NYU is notorious for not being need-blind to most international students.
I’m appying to Mathematics major in College of Arts and Science. Also, I sent in my application for financial aid hoping to reduce some of my cost, but expenses are not that big of a problem.
Your objective scores give you a great chance of being accepted, but what is your GPA/class rank? And has anyone read your essays? If so, how would they rank them? And what are your extracurriculars? NYU is notoriously holistic, so everything matters to a large degree.
I knew a bunch of international student who get the interview, and I don’t know any domestic student who has one. But for international student, I think ur stat is a little bit low, an act 31 is around 2060-2080 sat and most of the international student I know have 2100+
I don’t think interviews are that important that I think NYU use it to check the validity of international student’s test scores ( like how well u actually speak English and how well ur writing is since a lot of the kids get asked to write a short essay during the interview
Oh forget to mention that. My GPA is 4.05 weighted and class rank is 9/106.
My personal statement was revised by my English teacher and a Columbia graduate student who works specifically in essay revising.
And I had AP Chem, AP Cal, got a 4 and 5. And I’m taking AP stats and AP microeco this year

Yea. I know. That’s my biggest worry, thinking my standardize testing score is not high enough. Is NYU a college that has a high expectation on testing score?
NYU is very holistic, meaning that they don’t take standardized testing scores into consideration as other institutions, but they still DO matter. You actually should have seen their standardized testing policy, because 3 SAT2’s could have been sent in instead of an SAT/ACT. Your SAT2 scores are strong, so they may just take those into account instead of your ACT. Just hope that they won’t penalize you for your subpar ACT, although it’s not too bad.
It looks like your class rank is on par with getting into CAS Mathematics and you have plenty of ECs. Even though you’re an international student I’d say you have a very reasonable chance to get in, as long as your family can cover the full cost of NYU, since NYU is not need-blind for all international students.
I think you have a decent chance in regard to your stats. but i think essays are very important: they may be good
