@PTzzzzzzzzzz I think you’ve got a great chance, particularly since you applied ED. My daughter (out of state) had similar stats and was admitted RD. Of course, we crossed all our fingers and toes - must’ve worked and now she’s a very content W&M freshman. Good luck to you.
I think your GPA is a tad low for OOS, but I also think it’s an advantage being form CA in terms of class building. It’s hard for east coast schools - other than ivies and top LACs - without huge sports programs (think Duke) to get much traction. Just not a lot of name recognition.Good for you that you value the quality of W&M. It’s a tremendous place!
We’re an Asian family too from NE. But when we went to the W&M info session and tour, we learned the first largest group of applicants were Virginians and the second largest were Asians from China. I was surprised that my student with near perfect stats and national awards didn’t get in. But know that you are competing against lots of students who look like you. Unfortunately for schools who take race into consideration, at that school, you’ll be like a salmon swimming up stream IMHO.
Being a state school, Virginians will make up about 2/3 of the population. That is their requirement by statute. At least it’s not NC where they require 82% of enrolled students to be NC residents (why it’s ridiculously hard to get in to UNC as an OOS. Also difficult (not as) in VA. My S was accepted last yr with a 1400-1450 SAT, 3.95 GPA UW (5.5ish weighted with tons of AP and honors), excellent ECs (lots of leadership), excellent essays and recs. We are in FL so OOS is possible without perfect scores. They do care about ECs and essays a lot so hopefully that will help you.
Congratulations @PTzzzzzzzzzz and welcome to the William & Mary family! I am a current student here, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about stuff going in. Excited to have ya.
