@ily: thanks, so they then combine, my scores from converted ACT with my SAT

@inpursuit: no it does not

@enemy: thanks for the chance, but my GPA is so low (around 3.5 G-tech weighted)
and I heard that the avg. accept for early was 3.97 this year or something

my unweighted gpa was 3.67 weighted 4.28. I’m pretty sure the 3.97 that we see on the Tech website is their recalculated gpa. they recalculate your gpa based on only the core subject courses, and they give you an additional 0.5 pts if the class is weighted. that pushed me up from like a 3.67 to a 3.98 or something, so i think you can rest a little easier.

thanks, my core is actually pretty low because of my move in 10th grade (see chance thread), and in my school, the classes are really hard especially AP science, so I only took 2 AP’s up until senior year

but I hope that my SAT can get me in!

Do they give any financial aid to Indian male with income <$50k

Dude,
Don’t even worry about it. Tech is a awesome school, but from what I hear its a weeding school. Meaning, it isn’t the hardest to get into (compared to other schools of equal quality, such as Caltech, MIT, but more comparably: Berkeley, Stanford) but it works you once you’re there.

I got in early. 3.6 unweighted gpa, 3.9 weighted. Granted, my school’s pretty tough and I’ve taken loads of AP’s (10) and stuff. Judging from you SAT score, you seem like a pretty smart kid. I 2250’d (2300 superscore’d) myself, so I think you should be alright. Nevertheless, good luck!

It’s not a “weedout” school. It was about 20 years ago - admissions to Tech were very political (they didn’t want to deny in-state students) so unqualified students were admitted and they subsequently couldn’t keep up and failed out. Now that’s not the case.

Tech has a high freshman retention rate (students that continue on from Freshman to Sophomore year). Georgia Tech’s retention rate is 93%. Cal Tech is 82%. Berkeley 97% (but they have non-engineering majors someone can “drop” to), MIT 98% (but there are no first semester grades).

Also, Tech’s admission rate is similar to other public schools: Tech 60%, Michigan 42%, UIUC 70%, Purdue 72%, etc.
