So I've been reading posts and people keep mentioning being members of "National Honor Society"? What is that? Is it a club? Is it an award?

Hope this isn't a stupid question.. just curious :)

It's like an award and club. At my school have to have at least a 90 average Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior year. You also need to be actively involved in clubs. We get special privileges at school and do a lot of community service.

Oh... I've never heard of it before.. and I'm a senior with all A's and involved in clubs
I guess my school doesn't participate in NHS?

..that doesn't make it very "National"

I was just inducted into National Honor Society today; yay me!

At my school, you need at least a 3.6 unweighted GPA and ECs.

I think it is pretty BS to colleges, though, isn't it?

3.2 required for us.

I believe it is national, but your school just doesn't have a chapter set up...Why not try and start one!

3.5 plus some other stuff for us.

It's a fund raising pyramid scheme.

(I'm being somewhat facetious here)

NHS varies from school to school - some are just pay for entry... some have stringent requirements. I wouldn't worry too much. I mean find something you like and do that as an extracurric- and you'll be much better off.

I think it depends on school. For my school, NHS is a pretty big deal and we do alot of stuff through NHS. With the points system forcing kids to participate, we generally get a very high turn-out at all projects. But I have friends at other schools whose NHS is a big joke.
