What is NYU's financial aid like?

I know NYU's aid is pretty bad. There's a teacher in my school who's still paying back her debt to NYU and she's probably in her 50s already.

So I heard that NYU's aid consists mostly of loans. My family's income is less than NYU's tuition for one year (how incredibly sad). Will most of my aid (should I actually get into the school) be in loans, even though I obviously cannot pay for NYU?

Why does NYU have such horible finaid anyway?

NYU usually offers scholarships and grants to the top 5% of applicants. Ranging from $1,000 - 25,000.

From what I’ve noticed, NYU maxes out loans at $25,000. All the rest will probably need to be outside scholarships/grants or private loans.

Lol.

NYU does not appeal to students needing financial aid.

don’t apply

Um. I already did. NYU isn’t my ONLY school. I was just wondering what their financial aid package would be like.

I got a grant for 15k/year and loans for my financial aid. Definitly apply for outside grants and stuff because NYU’s aid won’t cover it. I wouldn’t say you shouldn’t apply, though.

Our son would like to be a film maker.

We will not qualify for need based financial aid, so we have a really hard time justifying sending him to NYU or USC if he gets in unless he gets some kind of merit based consideration.

We feel bad because they are supposedly the best and most well connected schools for film and yet the full tuition just seems too high.

Question:Is there any point in sending in FAFSA info to USC and NYU? Won’t it hurt his chances for any merit based scholarships when they see we have had a good income for the past few years? (We use most of it to go back into our business, but it still shows up as income.)
