What is possible with a GPA like this.

I'm in CA, and am lookin out of state but most likely want to stay in the UC system. IMO, my GPA sucks. I really fell apart i guess. It's 3.478 weighted and 3.167 unweighted. I've taken 4 AP's and 3 Honors classes thru 10-11. I don't even know where my ballpark is to shoot for regardless of the extra things. Also, how much would having an SAT score of 2000 help me?

With 2000+ SAT and that GPA it is probably possible to get into UCSD, and most likely into UCD and UCI along with the lower tiered UCs.

However that GPA makes it difficult to make it into UCB and UCLA as it is way lower than the middle 50.

Yeah, i know UCB and UCLA are out of my reach.I have this book that has all of the colleges average GPA's of those that get admitted, but not all of who goto those colleges. I'm not sure which colleges i should not consider with my GPA. Should i still consider colleges with a 3.8 something rating?

It won't hurt, its just another 60 bucks per school for UCB and UCLA. Better than to regret not applying.

Also, what major are you applying to? If it is engineering, I probably would not apply to UCB or UCLA for if I had your stats.

I was thinking maybe Business or English

First, UCLA has no true Business program, they have Business Economics which IS NOT Business Administration.

Only Cal and UCR have Business Administration for UCs.

If you want to apply to Haas, you must do it sophmore year at Cal and begin the Summer between Sophmore and Junior year.

So for admissions purposes people who put business down at Cal are lumped with everyone else that wants to apply to the Cal's College of Letters and Sciences.

Hmmm. Does major really matter when you first apply? Some people have said if you apply with some major that no one really wants, it increases your odds, and then you can always change it later. How does changing it work though? I heard something like it depends what you put as your major to what you want to switch to. I kinda don't get the whole system.

Your best chances would be at UCSC and UCR. UC San Diego, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Irvine would all be longshots unless your test scores were 2050+ or so. The reason is that the average UC GPA at those schools are all 3.7+.

Even UCSC is 3.69 UC GPA and UCR is 3.5 or so, but the difference is that UCSC and UCR have been accepting all UC eligible applicants that apply there since they've had the space in recent years (unlike the schools I just listed above). So, just make sure you're UC eligible, then get your application in. UCR is the only true business program of these two, but UCSC does allow for a computer business major if you are interested in that program--and does have a graduate level business program that you can take courses in as an undergraduate.

Cldsurfmky:

UCB/UCLA: Reach
UCSD: Slight Reach
UCI/UCSB/UCD: Match
UCSC/UCR/UCM: Safe Match

Thanks guys, i really appreciate all the help. Glad to have found this site.
