As many people apply to top colleges, many argue about the position of top colleges. Many people use the acronym HYPSM to describe the best Universities, being Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, and MIT. But what about Dartmouth? Dartmouth has the best undergrad program out of any national university, and the highest annual salary, but it rarely appears on the list of top colleges of many people. And what about Columbia? Columbia is currently number 4 on the USWNR rankings, but is never included in the acryonym, while MIT, who is number 7, is. What is the explanation to this? Discuss.

no i will not discuss. it is what it is.

so it goes.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Dartmouth has a strong following among those who love classic NE colleges with emphasis on undergrads. Columbia is loved by those who appreciate the core and NYC. If you want a tiny, classic LAC experience, some will choose Amherst, Williams and Swat over HYP. Among the very top colleges, it’s hard to go wrong.

HYPMS is primarily a reflection of the schools’ prestige, arising primarily from their graduate schools and the prominence of their faculty as researchers. It’s not a ranking based on undergraduate teaching.

Define “best.”

Best in what? It depends on the person. I would have had a good chance to get into HYPS (based on past acceptances from my high school, among other things), but I chose Pomona because I think my undergrad education will be superior to what any University can offer. I also wanted to be warm. There are many things to consider when choosing a school- no school is the “best.” Most top students will be happy at any of the top schools. And any top school - University or LAC - will give a top student the opportunities needed to succeed and be happy.

Dartmouth has a great business alumni network-many CEO’s, Wall Street network. Colgate and Holy Cross also do extremely well on Payscale salary rankings.

for what major?
for engineering the best are Caltech, MIT, Harvey Mudd and Olin College
for businees jobs the best are HYP, Wharton and Dartmouth.
for math University of Chicago, Harvard, MIT
