What is rice name after?

What is rice name after? I assume not the grain!

The University is named after William Marsh Rice, who made a fortune trading cotton in New York and stipulated that his money be used to create a school upon his death.

The name was orignially: The William Marsh Rice Institute for the Advancement of Arts Letters and Science.

Fascinating story:

Rice was murdered by his butler, who created a fake will that left Rice's fortune to him! James Baker, Rice's trusted attorney, unraveled the plot, saved the fortune and helped to found the school. Baker college is named after him, in his honor. Bakers grandson later became secretary of state.
