What is special about CMU except for its great computer science program??

Google "carnegie" and "mellon"
see how many entities have their origins to these two men.

Top 10 engineering program (#3 in computer engineering), amazing drama/arts program, #5 undergraduate business school.

The Wall Street Journal ranked Tepper (the business school) at #3.

Geeky humor, random art projects that always appear on campus, the ugliest building in the world, basements that go on forever, steam tunnels that "don't exist," the O, concern for the environment, the architecture program, riding swivel chairs down long sloping hallways, stairs that don't go where you think they do, Computing Skills Workshop, "parties" in computer clusters in the wee hours, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Also they support/like Macs here.

the way i see it, cmu is potentially a great place because it's relatively nerdy and likes to have fun in a nerdy way.. if u like that kind of thing.. and they're really into research

in fact, it's sometimes stereotyped as the safety for CalTech and MIT ppl

It's not just sterotyped as the safety for MIT, it is the safety for MIT. There's alot of people here who chose it over CalTech, though.

CMU has a large contingent of art students, unlike MIT and CalTech. They're an interesting group of people.

cmu is one of a kind. i don't think you're ever going to find a place that has archi parties (insane), intense academics (innntennnse), and great people (super amazing) all at one time. There's a lot of opportunities in a small campus, and pittsburgh is a great place for college students because there's a lot to do, from the musum 3 minutes down the street, to going to pitt which is 10 minutes from campus. the campus itself is small, and you're bound to find something that interests you, whether its the tartan newspaper, kiltie band, or cheering our football team on. ive never been to a school with a spirit quite like CMU's, unique in its own beause everyone has school spirit about something. not to mention, the free wireless internet really pays off when you need to write a paper at 3 in the morning and you're roommates asleep or has friends over. anyway... cmu is special because its what you make of it with what they give you, which is A LOT.

oh yeah. ur business program is like #3, art&drama is 1, cs is 1, ECE is 1 now i think, and we're strong in all our of fields. CMU is only school that offers decision sciences as an undergraduate major, something that if you're looking to get into marketing/business but don't want to apply to tepper, you might look into. think ethics, business, marketing, pyschology, and philosphy. each of our colleges is top ranked...you can't go wrong here
