I'm a left coaster and am looking for a change of pace, I applied at NYU, BU, Brandeis, Rutgers, and American. I'm getting to be fairly confident in the fact that I will not get into NYU or BU, probably not even Brandeis after looking over all the stats from everyone on here. I know Rutgers is more of a 2nd tier right? Is American a 2nd tier? Also, I was curious about St. John's University in Queens. Is it a very 2nd or 3rd tier school? Is it competitive to get into? Lastly, should I consider any of these schools if I have already been accepted to UCSB? I mean realistically, I will probably get the most financial aid from a California school right? Any opinions? I am an anthropology major that is seriously considering law school. If I decide to go to law school, I will probably change majors to philosophy or poli sci.

You might want to also ask your questions on the College Search & Selection forum since it gets more traffic and you’re asking more about the schools than transferring per se.

I’m not sure about tier but I have 2 friends who attend there with a full ride, both from the west coast too. Both of them were accepted to pretty awesome schools like USC and BU, but just wasn’t offered as much aid.

I’m not sure about competitiveness either, but looking at collegeboard stats, they are only slightly selective.

As for the city, if you have been to NYC and can envision yourself living in this city, then it’s a wonderful place. My friend who LOVES nyc with a passion really could not have chosen a better school more fit for her. Meanwhile, my other friend, who thought he loved the city life kind of wishes he was home because it’s way different than what he is used to. But he definitely enjoys the school and has made many friends.

Another thing, one friend seems to party a lot soooo if you wanted to know about nightlife/partylife then I guess it’s safe to say it’s a pretty active school in that territory.
