What is superscoring?

I hear everyone talking about superscoring, what is that?

Here's an example using scores I made up

First try
700CR
670M
800W
2170

Second try
720CR
700M
480W
1900

The superscore takes the best of each subsection. So, in this case, the 800 writing from the first test and the 720 and 700 in cr and math from the second to give a superscore of 2220

Most colleges do this to SAT scores (and only look at the top score in each section), with the main exception being the UC system.

The UCs are retarded. It is so unfair that they don't superscore.

forgive my ignorance...
but what is the UC system?

The University of California system; it is a bunch of public colleges. They include San Diego, LA, Berkely (spelling?), Irvine, Davis, Riverside, etc.

Do colleges superscore ACT scores?

I wouldn't call UCs unfair at all.

What's unfair is that the kid who scores 400 400 800, 400 800 400, 800 400 400 beats a kid who gets 780 800 800, 790 800 800

but UC acceptance are not as selective. It's more based on GPA and ECs. They don't even require recommendations.

yeahallie-
As a general rule, ACT scores do not get superscored.

Yeah, I didn't think so...since we choose which scores to send. Still, it would be übercool.
