Hi there
I was wondering if the UC's (particularly UCLA) takes into consideration the applicants first quarter grades of his/her second year. I know applications are due before at the end of november, and first quarter ends in december, so is it possible to send first quarter' grades so they are taken into consideration and computed in the overal gpa.

my grades so far have been

im a woman studies major
I go to ucr.but i commute from la so i really want to go to ucla..do i have a chance to get into ucla?

In January the UCs require you to complete the supplemental application form online–to fill in your fall grades and update the classes that you are registered/taking for spring/winter so yes they do get to see your grades.

if you want to get into UCLA take a bunch of easy transferable community college classes this summer that you’ll get A’s in because that’ll boost your transferable gpa.

Jetforce, not true. As a UC transfer, you cannot beef up your application with A’s from Community College. Only classes taken at UCR will count towards OP’s GPA, although he can take classes to get rid of prerequisites.

They take first quarter grades in consideration, so try your best for that one.

actually cali trumpet you’re confusing the UC gpa with the UC Transferable gpa. The UCs use your UC TRANSFERABLE GPA during transfer admissions… ALL coursework from a UC is transferable. By taking courses at CCC that are transferable they will count towards your TRANSFER gpa. If this were not true then i would not have been admitted to UCLA, UCSD, and UC Berkeley because i took coursework both at CCC and UCSB. Thats like saying you could get 1 quarter of 4.0 at a UC and then going to community college and getting 4 semesters of 2.5 and saying you still have a 4.0 with regards to a transfer gpa. Your UC GPA would be a 4.0 but your uc transferable gpa would be crap.

during january, they’ll send you an update form where you update the courses you’ll be planning to take for your second and third quarter, and you will be able to fill in grades you got during your first quarter

Jetforce, do you have a link? You could be right but I was pretty sure I read that as a UC-UC transfer, only classes taken at a UC are considered in your transferable GPA. You had a different situation than the OP since you are a CCC student who took summer classes at a UC. But I could totally be wrong, and the more I think about it, the more I now doubt myself.

I just posted a link that showed that UCs only look at the UC transferable gpa. Coursework done at a UC is transferable as well as coursework done at a CCC that is designated UC transferable. The definition of the UC Transferable GPA is the sum of all grade points earned through UC transferable coursework divided by the number of units that are uc transferable. Thus the grade points from both CCC and UC are taken into account because they are both deemed UC transferable. Would it make any sense that a UC transferable course taken at a CCC is not part of your UC transferable gpa? They use CCC classes that people took in high school as part of the transfer gpa so they’re definately going to use CCC courses that you take while you’re actually in college. If you really don’t believe me feel free to call an admissions officer. Whether UC-UC or CSU-UC or CCC-UC, the gpa that matters is the UC transferable gpa.

Yeah dude I agree it makes sense. I just swore I read something published by UCSC that said courses taken at a CCC over the summer for example would not be counted on my GPA. It’s not going to affect me, since I am already signed up for my two classes at UCSD, but this is great news for UC students to get their GPA up.

what you read was concerning the UC gpa. Your UC GPA is seperate from your UC Transferable gpa because it includes only coursework taken at a UC. When you graduate from a UC, the UC gpa is whats on your transcript.

Women’s Studies is incredibly unimpacted… at every school. Just keep doing what you’re doing and you’ll get in wherever you want. Don’t sweat the C. If you were trying to transfer as a communications major, the C would hurt you, but it won’t with your major.
Women’s Studies has a 55.28% admit rate at UCLA, with the average GPA of an admit being 3.44.

And, it looks like the average GPA of a UCLA transfer is around 3.6, not 3.3.

thrid quarter
Math: C-
English: A
Philosophy: A
upper division Woman Studies: A+

As you can see I did really well for the classes directed towards my major
but I did bad in math and econ…which dont really correlate with my major so much
I probably shouldnt havent taken a second quarter of math…for my major i didnt have to
Do you think they will take into consideration that I took upper division courses? and the courses I did bad in were not correlated with my major?

all you can do is try your best…and then apply…hold your breath…until you find out. I think you’ve got a shot. Its not like this major is hard to get into.
