i sent my completed app 10/28 and my file is marked fully processed 11/7, I am out of state and I still haven't heard back. My recalculated GPA is around a 3.7 and according michigan SAT scores I have a 1290, I also have very strong ECs and in my opinion great essays and I am a full IB diploma candidate + AP Calc, will I get in and when will I hear?

My file was marked complete on 11/11 (so only a little later than you), and I haven't heard either. Expect it to take a while longer, probably after winter break.

how about 10/12 complete?

That's bizzare, 10/12 and you haven't heard back... call them immediately.

Supposedly Michigan got about 3000 applications in a time period of about a week right around then. I applied the 25th with 4.0 GPA, 33 ACT and sitll haven't heard back. I don't think you really need to start worrying yet.

I have a friend who's app was completed in early November for pharmacy and hasn't heard anything yet either. 3000 apps in one week is overwhelming! It's probably just me but it seems like UMich is getting more apps than it has in recent years. It seems like everyone in my school is applying. How long does UMich say it usually takes to process an app?

there are probably a lot of weeks where michigan gets 3000 apps, they are expecting over 20,000 this year

ugh, complete 11/3 still haven't heard....

good to know I'm not alone

They had over 23,000 last year, and this year's apps are running ahead of last year, in some schools by a wide margin. So yes, volume is up.

Also, the administration is being extremely cautious this year because we can't go over the target (no housing capacity to handle an overage, unlike the last two years). Admissions is doing its best, but they're under the gun to take it slow. Some people are hearing back promptly, but the largest number of applicants may have to wait while they size up the app pool and try to figure out where the "admit-don't admit" line needs to fall.

I know you hate waiting. Michigan knows you hate waiting. I know they will do their level best to get decisions out as soon as they can under the circumstances.

yeah, i applied 9/29 and im not in a big rush, it is just frustrating seeing kids who apply later than you hear from them sooner. I called and they said it could take up to another 4 weeks.

Well mine was completed 12/16 (should have been 12/2 but had to resend the transcript), so I'll probably be waiting for a while :P

Expect a big fat deferral, my friend.

who should expect a deferral?

Me? Hmm.... darnit! What if I have near perfect SATs and GPA? (I am OOS though).

I'm speaking of JB, a 1290 is very average for a school of such high caliber like UMich. Even your above average grades cannot salvage your dismal scores. But there is good news; nearly 50 % of deferred applicants are enventually accepted, so keep you're head up.

we throw around the 50% of defferrals get in eventually but where did that come from? hoedown?

It's a pretty uncontrovertible fact when you look at how many spaces they need to fill.

umm henry, well my sat score would be a 1320 but since they take the best, and i do not appreciate the word dismal, my scores are well above the national avg and do your research buddy my scores are well above the michigan avg

JB, I agree that your scores and grades aren't "dismal", but they are not above the Michigan average. You say above that your GPA is 3.7 and your SAT is 1290. The Michigan means are 3.75 and 1320. I'd say you are borderline and that's what's taking time. You aren't a clear "admit", so thereis a chance you will be deferred.

hoedown--Which schools are those? Bad luck for S. if Kines./Sport Mgmnt. is one of them.
