Is Drexel in a good part of philly or is it in the ghetto parts, cuz i know some parts of philly are nice and some you really dont wana be in. How is the campus as far as the area goes??

not a expert, but spent a few months working in Phily and was interested in Penn for my kids maybe. One block from U Penn, so exact same neighborhood. Student and faculty houses within first few blocks. Beautiful city parks along river, maybe a long walk away or pub transit is great of course. So typical urban college setting. Wouldn't wander too far after dark. I am sure more than a few blocks in the wrong direction may put you in unfamiliar and questionable territory. But found that true evan at Yale, right?

It is not in a "good" part of Philly. The direct area around Drexel and UPenn are fine, but as said, go a couple blocks(not all that many) and you could be wanting to go back. But it really depends on how used you are to city environments, the area really isn't that bad.

well said - I worked and stayed downtown. Insurance co right behind Ind Hall. For lunch walked around same streets as BenF and ThomasJ and GeorgeW - amazing. Sometimes to City Tavern or Society Hill. Students can get there (other side of the river), but it is a bus or probably subway ride (and worth it once a week or so for the history stuff).

Well im from NJ only about an hour out of NYC and im very fimiliar with it b/c my 2 uncles actually live in the NYC, so needless to say im in the city quite a bit and am very fimiliar with the city atmospher and the main reason i want to go to drexel and even temple is b/c of the city atmosphere so if its similiar to NYC the i think i should feel right at home. I just know in NYC there are some great parts and i have no fear at all but if i was to go to the bronx or harlem i would want outa there quick, so what im really asking is if the area around drexel or even temple would be equated to someplace like the bronx or harlem??

i hope i can answer your question because I have lived in both cities. Temple is in a high crime neighborhood comparable to the worst neighborhoods in NYC. Drexel and Upenn are in a neighbor which is fairly safe in the daytime (ie you can walk on their campus areas without fear in the daytime, comparable to the safer areas of Brooklyn and Queens. If you stray a half mile from campus, you may be in trouble. However, you are less 15 minutes away by bus, train or car from the better area of town and the city atmosphere you want.

There is a lot of crime in Philadelphia, but i believe that the new mayor (whoever is elected, probably will reduce the crime.)

Let's not forget that the above posters only mean 3 out of the 4 edges of campus. If you're heading on Market Street, you're safe, even at midnight. 30th street station, the Forum (porno theatre) and other all-night places line Market street, and as you hit the River it's filled with people walking back from clubs. Very safe as long as you've lived in a city before.

I'd venture to say that even walking South down Market is safe for 10ish blocks, even though there's nothing of interest.

ya i dont think there would be any problem im pretty firmilir with the city lifestyle and im not really scared of walking around a city at night, i think the people that say its really bad are people that have never been in a city atmospher or are just unfirmilir with it.

I visited Drexel last weekend and I thought it was very dandy.
Its not like a beautiful campus but it certainly has everything
it needs to have. The main building was very pretty.
I think the campus itself is only about 3~4 blocks. Its 5 minute walk from the center city. Trains and buses are all around the day so it seemed very convinient. I don't know if you've actually visited Philly, but Philly is a beautiful city. Just think of it as a tiny manhttan but clean.

ya i think i went to the same thing, it was the discover drexel day. I thought pretty much exactly what you thought, it was a great campus very safe and i thought it is a perfect mix of the city and a college campus
