im a high school junior and my gpa is a 3.989 and im around 25 in my class out of 537 of something. do i have to be in the top ten in my class to have a good chance at getting into yale, or any other ivy league school for that matter?

No, but most people are in the top ten percent of their class. Is that a weighted or unweighted GPA?

Almost all accepted to Yale have a 3.8+ unweighted GPA & are ranked in the top 5% of their class. Most competitive applicants have a 3.9+ unweighted GPA & are ranked in the top 1% of their class.

Granted this depends on the caliber of your school, but in general it holds some basic validity. Assuming that GPA is unweighted and you have taken the hardest classes possible (perhaps your school ranks using unweighted grades), grades will not be an issue. Nevertheless, it takes a lot more than good grades to get into Yale...

thanks, and that is u/w
