Does anyone actually know?

No, besides, it's a meaningless number.

for Arts probably 3.3~3.5

how bout for science and interfaculty BA&Sc students?

[Grade distribution table](http://www.mcgill.ca/law-studies/information/grades/)

very interesting

That table is only for Faculty of Law students, not for the university as a whole. In Canada, Law students are considered “undergraduates”.

The rest of the undergrad programs almost certainly would have grade distributions with greater dispersions (i.e. more A’s and more C’s and D’s, or at least, more A’s). S’s limited knowedge suggests that in other McGill undergrad programs, there are plenty of people with 4.0’s or GPA’s close to 4.

Law was also an exception at my Canadian alma mater–despite having very strong students, almost no A’s were ever given–GPA’s weren’t reported, but in individual courses, generally fewer than 5% of the marks exceeded a B.

data from 2003 and 2004. but i’m pretty sure it remained pretty consistent throughout the years.

For those who do not want to wade through all 57 pages of that document, the average GPA reported is 3.28/4.00. This is only for the Faculty of Science but is more representative of the university as a whole than the previous link for the Faculty of Law. Students in the Honours program had an average GPA of 3.65. See page 9 of the document.

hw about the fac. of management (bcom)

i heard they curve it to 74% i think
is this true

If a search of the McGill website doesn’t bring it up, it’s not available. Keep in mind that at McGill, a 74 is a B and a 75 is a B+.

NSERC has complained about grade inflation at McGill recently; according to preliminary data, the Faculty of Science has inflated its grades, on average, by ~0.3 over a two-year span in an attempt to get more scholarships from NSERC for its undergraduates, to a ~3.6. (For the record, it took Brown at least 20 years to get its institutional average to the same 3.6)

This is unprecedented as far as STEM is concerned.

@Catria: Could you post a link to the source of your statement?

It seems to run counter the the many claims on CC that McGill has major grade deflation.

The only other explanation that could reconcile both deflation and the ~3.6 average reported by NSERC is that only Honors students applied for NSERC scholarships… in which case all that the NSERC guys see from McGill are the Honors students.

What about for those in the AES faculty? I don’t get much news from them.

I just calculated the average GPA for electrical engineering and it came out to be around 3.03
