what is the average gpa needed to transfer from uc to uc?

i have a 2.8 right now and i want to transfer from ucsc to uci or ucsb or ucla. whats some gpas that you have heard to got into these schools from other ucs?

As you probably know, UC-UC transfers are pretty low on the list of admittance to universities, and anything below a 3.0 is hard to pull off.

I can tell you UCLA is going to be hard to swing, Santa Barbara, with a little work may be possible, Irvine, I’m not too sure.

Best of luck!

I would say pull it up to a 3.3 - 3.4. The majority of the people on this forum getting accepted have gpa’s lower than people from CC’s but I haven’t seen one person get in with a GPA below 3.3.

I got in to UCLA from UCI with a 3.53 gpa

Yeah, not going to happen buddy, hehe. If after three quarters at UCSC you have a 2.8, I think its too late to decide that you actually want to put effort in to school. With just one quarter left that is counted (Fall), even with a 4.0 you will be at a 3.0/3.1 tops.

To answer your initial question, people generally say a 3.5 is the magic number but some majors/schools require a lower GPA and some majors/schools require a higher GPA.

As you probably know, UC-UC transfers are pretty low on the list of admittance to universities

Actually, that’s not true. UCSB has a higher acceptance rate from UC to UC transfers than even regular transfers:

Since everyone is providing anecdotal evidence, I’ll provide the actual statistics from UC Statfinder (this is UC to UC transfer data ONLY, so it’s accurate, from the Fall 2008 class)

School | Applicant GPA | Admitted GPA

Berkeley, 3.40, 3.70
Davis, 3.25, 3.33
Irvine, 3.07, 3.44
UCLA, 3.30, 3.52
Merced, 3.08, 3.16
Riverside, 2.95, 3.23
San Diego, 3.22, 3.40
Santa Barbara, 3.15, 3.21
Santa Cruz, 3.23, 3.30

I’m from Santa Cruz as well, but I have about a 3.27 cumulative GPA. Do you guys know if that seems likely to transfer into Davis?

Apparently according to stat finder I rank in the middle of the pack, but then again during Freshman admissions I was close to the middle of the pack and I still got screwed.

I figure if you add in all the TAG agreement people, they’ll give you an unfair representation because their GPAs will be lower than the average admit, but still be included in the statistics. So I figure the statistics are artificially low for the median range…

Also have any of you noticed how much the grades drop after 1-2 years? It’s surprising. According to stat finder everyone who was earning roughly a half A/ Half B average dropped to a flat B average upon entering their 2nd year. I’m not worried about it, but just…surprised.
