I've been looking around on Amazon trying to find the best AP US book. I already bought the Princeton Review but I read there are better ones. How is the REA prep book? Any suggestions?

REA is fairly decent for the APUSH test, but I didn’t use as heavily to review as I had intended. I just stuck with my textbook for the most part. I wouldn’t recommend Princeton Review (a few people in my class used it last year, and didn’t perform too well on the practice exams).

With that said, go with AMSCO. It’s definitely your best bet, especially if you want to score high on AP test. (I personally don’t have any experience using it, but it certainly seems promising based on what others said).

There is a sticky on this on the AP section of this forum - you’ll see that AMSCO is highly recommended.

Good Luck!

Wrong forum.

AMSCO = your textbook
REA = your review book

No point in remaking this thread.

Amsco / REA Crash Course combination will get you through.

Can you suggest one that shows you clearly the basic things you need to know? I’m an international student n just started off with u.s history. I did terrible on my last test, so i really do need help with the core knowledge first.
Thanksss.

Amsco is a textbook? Is that book more preferable than American Pageant?

It’s a review book, but just as good as your textbook. If you plan on taking the AP Exam buy it NOW. (:

…yea and REA crash course as a supplement helped.

O ok, I definitely will then. I’ll try to see if they have it at Borders. Thanks for the clarification!

i think you should just stick to the Pageant

I strongly recommend using the 5 Steps to a 5 McGraw Hill review book. I used that almost exclusively, starting at the beginning and highlighting my way through the book. I not only scored a 5; I also felt I knew my US History from front to back. It worked exceedingly well for me.

Can I purchase that at Borders?

Definitely get REA Crash Course for your final review. It is a small book and pulls together certain topics with high likelihood of appearing on the exam.

5 Steps to a 5 isn’t too bad, but a few people told me it was too general and lacked depth in certain areas.

Just stick with the Pageant and AMSCO (+REA Crash Course) - and you’ll be golden.

^Sounds good:)

I heard REA is good, Kaplan is not bad either for last minute reviewing.

AMSCO.

My APUSH teacher even took 5 min out of class and recommended it lol.

American Pageant was a great textbook. Used Princeton Review for studying before the exam and unit tests. Worked well for me…

[Welcome to APNotes.net :: 100% notes, 0% crap](The American Pageant AP US History Notes - 16th Edition:: APNotes.net) is a great site for reviewing, too.

^O, how intriguing! Thanks for the link:)

AMSCO. That’s it. It’s all you need.

I took APUS last year, and in the beginning of the year we used a textbook, but by the end of the year we were just using AMSCO. I think almost everyone (maybe 5 people out of 60) got at least a 4.

I read skimmed through AMSCO the night before the test and got a 4 (I also too much time on the multiple choice and didn’t answer almost 20 of them, but listen to your teacher when he says that you should answer them all.)

Simply reviewing Crash Course a couple days before the SATII USH got me a 690, which is better than I was expecting.
