hiii..i m doing psychology major now....i m interested in doing masters also...what are the best areas in masters for psychology majors like industrial, counselling, etc. coz i m really confused in them...n what are the best colleges for doing masters for psychology majors???

Talk to your psych advisor and your career center for answers to questions like this. Your advisor or the head of your department should be able to answer questions about the different fields of psychology.

Also, a masters is usually not the terminal degree for someone who wants to work in psychology or as a psychologist; it's generally a Ph.D.

Perhaps try orgainzation/industrial psych. I'm a clinical psychologist and I hear there's a big demand in this area. AI think they do program evaluation, applying statistical tests to improve an organization's functioning, that sort of thing. Some states may employee school psychologists with masters' degrees. Any interest in teaching high school, perhaps at a private school? I don't know of any state where you can get a license to practice clinical psych at the master's level. If you feel like that is your calling, (unless things have changed), you either have to get a Ph.D. with internship and post-doc, which is very taxing and hard considering the low return on monetary investment, if that is important to you. Or, if you want to do clinical work and not go the long Ph.D route, you have to get a license in a related field, which also requires more grad school --- social work license, licensed professional counselor, marriage and family counselor license. None pay very well, unless you are able to somehow really stand out and build a practice through your own excellence or charisma or luck /or unless you find some other way to escape the grip of managed care. It is important to investigate the laws in whatever state you plan to practice, if you want to do clinical psych. or school psych. States are differerent, and have different requirements for licensure. E.g., don't work on a terminal clinical master's unless you are very clear that there is a work route for you to go down with that degree in your state.

As to college, you would be surprised. There are so many programs in so many states. There is not a high correlation between good applied psychology programs and well-known or prestigious colleges or universities. For example, some of the best clinical programs are at universities you might never think of or even have heard of. Whereas, the Harvards, Yales, Princetons, etc. mostly don't have any applied psychology degrees --- usually just research degrees. The APA publishes a Guide to Graduate Study every year which becomes the Bible of every student who wants to go to graduate school in psychology. You have to study many pograms in depth to see if they really offer what you want. Call admissions or faculty and ask them lots of questions about their offerings, what their students do when they get their degrees, etc.
