I am moving out this summer, and I am trying to find the best ISP in berkeley. It seems comcast is the only ISP here, and I googled around and found out that a lot its customers hate it really bad. Any thoughts or comments?

I use Comcast. It’s allright. 99% of the time, the problem comes from my router and not the internet service itself.

There’s also SBCGlobal/AT&T. We’ve had them for years and it’s been fine as long as you don’t try to call their tech support (which we rarely do).

Is FiOS available?

are there any T1 connections? my friends and i are looking for one.

i checked verizon and at&t, and it seems they don’t offer any service for the place i am moving to, which is on oxford st.

There are T1 connections available, but you don’t want it. If you check the pricing, you’ll know why.

I’m really suprised there is no AT&T service down on Oxford St. Comcast and AT&T are the two big providers in the Bay Area and they have pretty much everywhere around here covered. Try calling AT&T, and not relying on their website to check coverage.

An alternative to AT&T and Comcast is DSL Extreme.

A good place to research on internet service is http://www.dslreports.com/ .

As long as the T1 is cheaper than 400/month. how much o.O

Why the hell would you need a T1 connection?

Downloading. Sharing among 10 people.

Well I recommend you to get a quote for how much it’ll cost. Even then, everyone will be having to pay $35+ a month for internet. Pretty pricey expense for a college student. Then you’ll have to consider installation and such.

But if the peace of mind that your dedicated connection won’t be bogged down with 10 people downloading 24/7, then go for it.

Is it that cheap? T1 over here in SoCal is…well, let’s not go into details, but geez, compared to that, it’s a deal. LOL.

A T1 makes no sense for that scenario. The only benefit is that T1 gives you a dedicated line direct to the network providers, but if you’re planning on downloading keep in mind that T1 speeds are very slow compared to most cable providers as well as fiber such as FiOS which defeats the purpose of fast downloads.
