My d will be an education major in the fall. We were prepared to get her a mac. However, after visitiing we think it might be easier to have a PC.We were told it does not matter for her major. The Burlington Best Buy doesn't service the Mac and the University seems better at fixing PC's. She will not have a car. Anyone have any experience trying to get the laptop serviced either through the University or at Best Buy?

Go with the mac. Most students at Elon have mac’s and the students themselves are a great resource for quick solutions. There is a Apple store in Greensboro if she ever needs it.

My S started Elon with a PC laptop and had lots of problems. I’m fine with my PC but his mac goes into a backpack 15+ times a day, maybe because apple controls all of the components they can handle it but his PC just couldn’t take it…

If you wait till July - Aug Apple often has some good student promotions. Last year they were able to get free a free IPOD and printer.

Also: you said “The Burlington Best Buy doesn’t service the Mac”, I doubt they really service PC Laptops either. My local BB sends almost everything that is returned for service off site, even though they have what appears to be a large service Dept.

I’d also go with a mac. I have a PC but I’m surrounded by people with macs and I wish I got one lol. I like how compact they are…my PC is rather clunky so I hate taking it around with me.

Regarding Macs- I could be wrong but I think I remember something about communication majors needing macs not pcs for the software?
