What is the best major in Cal for becoming an actuary?

I'm a transfer student and admitted as a math major. Now I'm taking some upper division math courses and I'm so scared by those proofs. So I'm wondering if I can declare another major to avoid them. What if I do major in statistics? Or something else? Are those upper division math courses essential for taking actuarial exams?

You don’t really need any math beyond 53 and 54 to become an actuary. In fact, most of your work is going to deal with statistics so it’d be highly advantageous to switch over. Oh and if you can, try taking UGBA 104 or some other programming class so you don’t have to study programming when you’re trying to pass the actuary exams.

Statistics or Applied Math probably.

Upper division statistics and math are really only appropriate for a certain type of student. If you aren’t that type of student, taking them is suicide.
