Looks like it is time to sign up for housing at SUNY Binghamton. I am wondering what are the different characteristics/personalities of each residence community.

NEWING!!!

Well okay, here’s the thing.
Suite vs. Corridor - I personally like corridor, and recommend it for your first year, to get to know a variety of people.

Newing, Dickinson - entirely corridors
CIW - mix suite/corridor
mountainview/hinman - entirely suites

Also, they’re rebuilding newing and dickinson so if you live there you have a good chance of later living in a NEW building, newer than mountainview…

Nobody particularly likes hinman/dickinson.
CIW is rather social, but known for potheads.
Newing is known for greek life but it really depends on the building (CHENANGO!!! doesn’t have any sororities/frats).
Mountainview is known to be anti social due to the suite style. It’s also up a large mountain, so that could be annoying during the snowy times…

Feel free to PM if you have any further questions.

Thank you so much!

I feel that the depictions of the dorms represented above is not true. The problem with people telling you about this as opposed to you going for yourself and visiting is that people will talk about the stereotypes that are not true. For instance, “no one likes hinman/dickinson”? Are you kidding me? I lived in Hinman for 2 years and I have never had such a good time in my life. I don’t even live in the community anymore and I’m still involved greatly. Also, I have plenty of friends in Dickinson who love it as well. Please go to reslife.binghamton.edu and check out our student blog at [Binghamton University Admissions](http://blogs.binghamton.edu/index.php/admissions/) to find out the real information behind the dorms. If you have any other questions please let me know!

Jana

Okay fine, so I should have prefaced that with “In my personal experience, I find that my friends seems to enjoy dorms in CIW/Newing”.

I apologize to those who happen to like hinman/dickinson.

It’s a very personal thing, I suppose.

Mountainview is not anti-social. People say that cause they try to feel better they actually didn’t get in. There are anti-social people in mountainview at the same proportion as newing, dickinson, ciw, and hinman. There is always going to be anti-social people but mountainview as a whole is not. Typical stereo type from people not in mountainview jelous that difference between wat we in mountain view live in is a 5star hotel compared to them at a motel.

Granted there will be a new newing and dickinson. The first building of newing is neighborhood style its a hybrid of corridor and suite. The following buildings will be a mix of suite and corridor depending on student input.

How is the construction going?

The first 1 or 2 buildings will be completed for the fall and as the next year goes on, they will continue to build.

I never get an up close view since im never over by newing. But i see it from a distance walking up the mountain to mtn view it looks VERY nice
