What is the best way for an entrepreneur?

I want to be an entrepreneur, if possible I would skip college to start my own business. However I feel it is important to get a degree to fall back on and also to get start-up money.

What do u think about this? Should I go to a really tough school such as UNC or Wharton (if I get into either one)...or go to a respected but lesser known public state school?

I would learn more b/c I would compete less with students and work harder on achieving what I really want. I could also form good relationships/contacts through professors. But I want the prestige of attending a top school. such tough decisions....

How do u guys feel?

bump (10 char)

3 options:

1.) start business now, see how it goes, whatever. chances are slim, but
who knows.

2.) top schools. don't expect to have a lot of time to focus on a business while you're in one of these, there's a lot of grind. i will admit since i got here (wharton) i've learned a lot though, even if it was at the expense of sleep.

3.) publics. if you want to do something while you're in school, this is a valid option. i transferred from one of these, and i was a lot more laid back and had much more free time to devote to whatever i wanted -- personal training, sports nutrition work, and managing a sports nutrition store in my case -- but could have done whatever.

basically, if u know you want to go to college, apply to both the tough ones & the easier ones as safeties. if you get into one of the tops you won't be able to realistically turn it down and feel good about yourself, so you'll take that one. otherwise you'll go to a public, have an easier/more enjoyable time and maybe even get paid for it (i know if i would have stayed at my public i would have made about $5000 for going to school this year instead of spending ~$20); may not get quite the same education or contacts, but you can make up for it later. the contacts are why i chose to come personally -- it's possible to make them regardless but requires more legwork. you have to go to them instead of them coming to you.

i'm sure there's a lot of rambling, but i went to sleep at 5 this morning and got up at 8 so -- i'm going to work out and sleep so i can become coherent again. good luck with your decisions.
