I took the practice ACT through my school and got a 21. I decided to take an ACT class to learn any strategies that might help me. Since then, I have taken many practice ACTs in my home and I am consistently getting 22s. I am a good student who takes many honors classes (3.7 unweighted GPA), so I don't understand why I am so horrible and test taking. I am also thinking about getting a private ACT tutor. What have you done to improve your ACT score? And would you recommend a private tutor? My ACT goal is a 25 or 26, so I would like to raise my score by 3 or 4 points.

I’d recommend http://www.amazon.com/Boost-Score-Unofficial-Software-Guide/dp/B002MS69OE. My D started in the mid-20s and now is scoring in the low 30’s. The software helps you focus on the areas you need improvement. I found that it helps with the most with English and Math. I don’t think you can increase reading in a short time.

I’d try this before a tutor. It’s $15. If you are willing to put the time in, you can raise your score own your own.
