What is the CSS profile?

I'm sorry that this is a very basic question but I cannot find anywhere that the CSS profile actually describes what it is.
One of the schools I applied to apparently had it due on January 1st but I never never even heard of it. Does that mean that I no longer qualify for FAFSA financial aid since I missed the deadline?

And to anyone reading this thread..CHECK YOUR COLLEGE WEBSITES FOR FORMS DUE AND DEADLINES.

The CSS Profile is a financial aid application that collects information and sends it to the colleges you choose. Your college probably provides a link to the College Board site where you can complete this form. I would suggest you do it ASAP. You will be doing with your best estimates for what your income was in 2008.

You should call the financial aid office and ask them how they want this form amended once your 2008 taxes are completed.

You should do the FAFSA soon as well with estimates.

If your school uses the Profile, they use the information on it to disperse their institutional funds. This is money above and beyond federal aid which is determined by FAFSA. The maximum financial aid that is based on FAFSA alone is usually a drop in the bucket for schools using the Profile...so you want to get that one done ASAP too.
