I've read descriptions of both majors but in general they seem like whichever degree you get, you can get jobs in both fields.

Can someone explain the main difference of these degrees? And for example, if two people worked for the same company, one with a COMM degree and one with a PR degree, what would each of their main tasks be?

Public Relations is more of a specific field inside of communications, I think. Communications is the broader subject, with different focuses/sub-subjects inside of it, like public relations. Majoring in public relations has you taking more public relations specific courses, while majoring in Communications will involve a broader range of topics in communications.
