What is the difference between ED I and ED 2

Literally what the title says lol.

But I am also having a dilemma-- I took SAT IIs in May, and I am dissatisfied with my scores. I am also taking SAT I in June-- I know I am not going to do well. I know that ED I applicants have a higher chance at acceptance to NYU. For my school, ED I applications should be mailed out for NYU on November 1st. This means that I only have the upcoming October to improve SAT scores-- and I have to choose between to improve subject tests or general SAT I.

ED II for my school has to be mailed out by December 15, and now that I think about it, I am eligible for 2nd degree black belt testing by then. That could also strengthen my application.

Would it be better for me to apply to ED 1 with improved SAT I scores, and no SAT II scores, or would I have a better chance had I applied ED II with improved SAT I and SAT II scores, plus the 2nd degree black belt title?

I feel like ED II is a more competitive pool of students because these are students that got rejected from their top choice school, which means their grades are going to be higher than those who select NYU as their top choice school.

I hate junior year...I am such a mess right now, and I'm sorry if I sound like a naggy, whining, paranoid imbecile. Your answers are greatly appreciated. <3

hey anonymous,

i recently got accepted to stern as a junior transfer, but it wasn’t too long ago when i applied to nyu straight from high school (i was eventually waitlisted then rejected, hence why i applied again as a transfer). i feel like nyu does not give much weight to the resume, they are definitely more grades based, especially in terms of gpa. i had a great sat in high school, but a so-so gpa and it was the gpa that hurt me the most. so i would definitely focus on the gpa, although by now in junior year that should be pretty fixed.

as for sat I and sat II, I think that both of those should be strong. besides gpa, this is what nyu puts the most weight on next. especially since nyu gives the option of applicants getting to choose what they want to send (combination of ap scores, sat II scores), I am most certain that applicants would want to put themselves in the best possible light and would reveal only their highest scoring exams. Therefore sat II scores should be just as strong as your sat I scores.

as for everything else, resume, recommendations, (even essays =O), i honestly feel like doesnt make a huge difference, especially with nyu. i feel like people put way too much emphasis on these intangibles, but it is mostly the grades and the exam scores that will get you in. good grades and ok resume/essays will get you in, but so-so grades and a stellar resume/essay might not be enough to save you.

this is different for tisch and all the other schools which require a portfolio/audition, cause if you have a good portfolio, they might overlook the grades and still accept you. hope this helps

so numbers are more important?! people have told me they care more about EC’s and essay :(

my grades are so-so…

I got into Stern RD without submitting my SAT 2 scores. If that helps at all…

Black belt won’t make too much of a difference on your application – NYU will look first and foremost to your grades and SAT scores.
